Danny Rohl has now been in charge of Sheffield Wednesday for 365 days and what a journey it has been.

Danny Rohl was appointed as Sheffield Wednesday manager on October 13th, 2023.

The German had a limited playing career but quickly earned some top jobs once he stepped into the coaching world.

Rohl began coaching in his home country of Germany with RB Leipzig before taking up roles at the likes of Southampton and Bayern Munich.

He was also the assistant manager of the German national team for a brief time before taking up his first role in management with Sheffield Wednesday last year.

It seemed a strange move at the time with the Owls battling it out for relegation but Rohl was able to guide them to a 20th-place finish in the 2023/24 Championship table – securing survival on the final day.

And a year on, things are looking more promising for Rohl and his Wednesday players.

Danny Rohl sends message to Sheffield Wednesday players and fans

The October international break is now in full swing but the Yorkshire outfit were able to sign off with a huge win.

Sheffield Wednesday beat Coventry City 2-1 last weekend and now, 365 days on from taking the role at Hillsborough, Rohl has taken to Instagram to pen a message to the club’s fans and players.

He wrote: “365 days full of passion, emotions, Up and Downs, setbacks and many unforgettable moments with our incredible fans. I am proud of my team who never gives up, plays with 100% and shows incredible character on our journey.

“I have met many great people who give everything for our club, support me every day and are always there for our players. A big thank you to our massive fans for the extraordinary appreciation you have shown me since day one.

“I am incredibly grateful to be part of such a unique club and will do my best for our club everyday. Together into a successful future where Improvement and development has no finish line.”

Can Danny Rohl deliver success with Sheffield Wednesday

While Rohl will forever be remembered for helping Sheffield Wednesday avoid relegation to League One, the task at hand in 2024/25 is much bigger.

The Owls brought in a lot of new faces over the summer and were predicted a midtable finish this time around.

It has not gone quite to plan so far though, with the Yorkshire outfit sitting 15th in the Championship table after nine games.

However, following a concerning winless run, Sheffield Wednesday are undefeated in their last three fixtures.

They beat West Bromwich Albion, drew with Bristol City and beat the aforementioned Coventry. Should that form continue once club football resumes, Rohl could be the man to get Wednesday competing in the top half of the table come May next year.
