Sheffield Wednesday star Djeidi Gassama may be feeling the impact of one unwanted Championship statistic already.
After signing from Paris Saint Germain in August 2023, big things were expected of Djeidi Gassama at Hillsborough.
The 21-year-old did not have the most prolific debut campaign in England, despite being called ‘divine’, only finding the net three times and providing three assists across 35 Championship appearances in the 2023/24 season.
Gassama impressed for Sheffield Wednesday in pre-season over the summer and some fans likely hoped it would kick-start his rise to stardom in Yorkshire in 2024/25.
However, despite featuring in seven of Sheffield Wednesday’s nine Championship fixtures so far this term, the forward has so far scored just one and provided no assists.
Gassama is yet to complete 90 minutes in the league under Danny Rohl in 2024/25 but is still among the second-division leaders for an unwanted statistic.

Sheffield Wednesday star Djeidi Gassama among Championship leaders for unwanted stat
Gassama scored his first goal of the season on October 5th when Sheffield Wednesday beat Coventry City 2-1 away from home.
It was a promising display from the winger and could see Rohl hand him a more prominent role going forward.
However, should Gassama start to play on a more regular basis, he could well end up topping the Championship for an unwanted stat.
WhoScored via the Sunderland Echo have now revealed the most fouled players in the Championship this term per 90.
And Gassama is fourth on the list having been fouled 17 times despite having only played seven times for a total of 341 minutes.

Djeidi Gassama can become key player for Sheffield Wednesday
To say Gassama has not quite reached his full potential in a Sheffield Wednesday shirt is a fair assessment at this stage.
The winger is quick, tricky and can terrorize defenders when playing at his best for the Owls.
However, Gassama has been pretty inconsistent during his time in Yorkshire, which is perhaps why Rohl is still yet to hand him a full 90-minute outing during the current campaign.
But after impressing in the 2-1 win over Coventry prior to the October international break, the forward now has a great chance to step up and cement himself as a top star under Rohl.
Gassama will likely be on the receiving end of a lot more fouls if he does start playing on a more regular basis but that is just something the player, along with many other tricky forwards, will have to deal with.
