One Sheffield Wednesday signing will be out to prove certain doubters wrong in the upcoming 2024/25 season.

Sheffield Wednesday kick off their 2024/25 Championship season on August 11th with a clash vs Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle at Hillsborough.

There’s growing expectations for Danny Rohl and his side next season after what’s been an impressive start to the summer transfer window.

So far, Sheffield Wednesday have signed nine new players, with eight of those arriving on permanent deals (James Beadle is the Owls’ only loan signing so far this summer).

More are expected too, with Sheffield Wednesday trying to re-sign Ike Ugbo from French third tier side Troyes.

Many of Sheffield Wednesday’s new signings arrive as unknown quantities. The likes of Svante Ingelsson and Olaf Kobacki have never played in England, but the likes of former Southampton man Yan Valery may be expected to hit the ground running.

One player who my be out with a point to prove next season is Max Lowe.

Max Lowe can prove Sheffield United doubters wrong at Sheffield Wednesday in 2024/25

Sheffield Wednesday signed Lowe on a free transfer following his release at Sheffield United at the end of last season.

He was the Owls’ second signing of the summer and it’s recently been suggested that the 27–year-old could go on to become Sheffield Wednesday’s best signing of the summer.

The claim was met by ridicule from Sheffield United fans who were critical of Lowe, highlighting his overall ability as a reason why he may not succeed in S6.

One Sheffield United fan said: ‘We let him go because he wasn’t good enough’, whilst another called Lowe ‘defensively poor’.

In four years at Bramall Lane, Lowe featured just 53 times in all competitions, but recorded nine assists from left-back.

Why Max Lowe can prove his worth under Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday

The first thing to note is that Lowe won’t be expected to play week in week out next season, with Marvin Johnson likely to be the first choice left-back for Rohl.

So Lowe will have the opportunity to regain his fitness, and playing in a dynamic Rohl set up that places a lot of focus on full-backs could really suit Lowe’s attacking-style.

But there’ll obviously be an emphasis on Lowe to do his defensive duties and that’s what could make or break him as a Sheffield Wednesday player.

Johnson had similar issues last season and was criticised in games against the likes of Ipswich Town for his struggles when defending.

Rohl though showed last season that he has a knack for getting more out of players who were previously under-performing, and if Lowe can stay fit next season then he may prove to be a very shrewd signing for the Owls.
