A player who spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday could seal a Serie A transfer this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday are enjoying strong summer transfer window this year. But last year was a different case.
Although the Owls had some success stories with the likes of Di’Shon Bernard, Anthony Musaba, and Djeidi Gassama, there were arguably more signings that didn’t pay off for Sheffield Wednesday.
The likes of Jeff Hendrick and John Buckley arrived on deadline day last summer, as two clear panic buys, following what was a very underwhelming transfer window with Xisco Munoz at the helm.
But the 2023/24 Championship season, on the whole, was a positive one, almost entirely in part to Danny Rohl who arrived in the October and steered the Owls to a rather unthinkable 20th place finish in the end.
January loan signings helped the club out massively. One loan signing that didn’t work out though was that of Devis Vasquez.

Devis Vasquez could seal Serie A transfer after Sheffield Wednesday loan flop
Colombian goalkeeper Vasquez, 26, joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan from AC Milan last summer, eventually featuring nine times in the Championship.
He kept one clean sheets and conceded 16 goals before his loan spell was cut short in January, with James Beadle then arriving.
Vasquez received mixed reviews throughout his time in S6. But he now has the choice of two clubs.
Italian journalist Daniele Longo, who writes for Calciomercato, has revealed on X that Milan have an ‘agreement’ with Serie A outfit Empoli and also Serie B outfit Spezia.
Vasquez is set to decide on his future in the coming hours but Milan would prefer for him to join Spezia, as that would be a permanent deal.
After leaving S6, Vasquez joined Serie B Ascoli on loan, featuring 10 times and keeping five clean sheets.
Devis Vasquez allowed for one major positive at Sheffield Wednesday
Vasquez showed glimpses of a decent goalkeeper at Sheffield Wednesday, and a move to Serie A Empoli would be an exciting potential transfer for him.
But his Wednesday exit opened the door for the arrival of Beadle, who’s since returned on loan from Brighton after he played a huge role in the Owls’ eventual 20th place finish last time round.
If Rohl and co didn’t make the call to cut short Vasquez’s loan, then Beadle may not have joined, and Sheffield Wednesday may well have struggled even more in their fight for survival.
So every dark cloud has a silver lining, and Sheffield Wednesday fans will surely wish Vasquez well in his next move.
