Sheffield Wednesday were thumped 6-0 by Ipswich Town in the Championship, with one player coming under criticism a bit more than most.

Sheffield Wednesday would’ve been expecting a tough outing vs Ipswich Town in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

But few would’ve though the Tractor Boys would run riot against the Owls and eventually claim all the points with a 6-0 win.

There were three goals either side of the break in what was by far the Owls’ worst performance under Danny Rohl, who reverted to a back-four for the game today.

It proved ineffective and one player who certainly struggled in the new set-up, among many others, was Marvin Johnson.

Marvin Johnson’s season so far at Sheffield Wednesday

It’s certainly been a turbulent season for the 33-year-old.

He played a starring role for the Owls last time round, featuring 44 times in league fixtures and scoring three goals, with seven assists to his name as well.

But for whatever reason, Xisco Munoz completely exiled Johnson last summer, to the point where Johnson was training on his own in Dubai.

He’s come back into the fold under Rohl and he’s reminded everyone of his qualities, with three goals and four assists in what is now 23 Championship appearances this season.

Ipswich Town tried and failed to sign Johnson in the January transfer window.

Rohl reverted to a back-four for the game vs Ipswich Town.

He’s been deploying a back-five in recent weeks and to great effect, though it seemed like he wanted to attack Ipswich today.

And in the opening stages, attack is certainly hat the Owls did.

But once the first goal went in, it took the wind out of Wednesday sails and two more goals quickly followed, with the first and third goals stemming from attacks on Johnson’s side.

There’s a common criticism emerging of Johnson; whilst he offers so much going forward, his defensive game has often become exposed, especially when playing in a back-four.
