Five Sheffield Wednesday talking points after Swansea City draw, Svante Ingelsson dilemma and more

Sheffield Wednesday drew 0-0 with Swansea City in the Championship on Tuesday night, in what was a frustrating night overall.

Sheffield Wednesday played out a dull first half but looked brighter in the second half, having their share of chances and even a penalty shout waved away.

The Swans also had their share of possession and sights of goal, though in the end, a point each was probably the fairest outcome.

Danny Rohl doesn’t know his best attack

We often see a change or more to the attacking three of Sheffield Wednesday, seeing two against Swansea with Svante Ingelsson and Jamal Lowe come in for Olaf Kobacki and Ike Ugbo respectively.

It suggests that Danny Rohl is yet to figure out his best attack and that kind of inconsistency in selection will surely damage the overall consistency of the side.

But it’s not exactly Rohl’s fault; Ugbo hasn’t lived up to expectations and no attacking player has exactly covered themselves in glory yet this season.

Sheffield Wednesday can’t find home consistency

For the Owls at Hillsborough this season, there’s been no consistency. There’s been emphatic wins, hard-earned wins, defeats, and simply bland performances like the one against Swansea City; the first half more so than the second.

Wednesday will no doubt rely on their home form to keep them afloat this season. But in games against the likes of Swansea who are beatable, Wednesday really need to show a bit more bite early doors.

They didn’t seem as pressing against the Swans; whether that’s with the trip to Portsmouth in mind remains to be seen.

The Svante Ingelsson dilemma

Sheffield Wednesday fans quickly warmed to Ingelsson. But there’s a sense that we’re yet to see the very best of him, or that he’s not been as lively since his impressive Sheffield Wednesday debut against Plymouth.

He’s in and out of the XI, making just his fifth league start of the season on Tuesday. But he played in a more attacking role, often finding himself out on the wing.

After signing the Swede, Rohl said that Ingelsson is a box-to-box midfielder. Whilst he can’t play that role right now, given the form of Shea Charles, Rohl must figure out how else he can get the best out of Ingelsson.

He showed some positive signs against the Swans, but overall he was fairly ineffective.

Should Sheffield Wednesday have had a penalty?

The wait for a Sheffield Wednesday penalty goes on, now up to 524 days at the end of the Swansea City game.

But there was a definite shout for a spot kick in the second half when Swansea City defender Ben Cabango brought down Jamal Lowe.

There were strong calls from the Owls players for referee Matt Donohue to blow the whistle, though it never came.

Sheffield Wednesday without Shea Charles would really struggle

Once again, Charles shone in the midfield for Sheffield Wednesday, keeping play ticking over with neat play all round.

Rohl is fearful that Southampton might recall Charles in the January transfer window. And so he should be; before Charles arrived, Wednesday were disjointed.

He brings a huge amount of balance to the side. If he weren’t on the pitch against Swansea then it could’ve been a very different story for Wednesday, with the Swans having their share of chances and possession.

Charles had the joint-most touches of any Owls player (54), and the joint-second most accurate passes too (26).
