Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has explained the role that Svante Ingelsson will play next season.
Danny Rohl has overseen some quite drastic changes to the Sheffield Wednesday first-team squad this summer.
So far, a total of nine new players have arrived at Hillsborough, and unlike summers before, there’s a definite sense of quality to the quantity that’s arrived.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2024/25 Championship season with Sheffield Wednesday vs Plymouth Argyle the first Owls clash of the campaign.
There’s one more pre-season friendly before then; Liam Palmer’s testimonial game vs Leganes at Hillsborough this weekend.
It’ll be another chance for Rohl to take a look at his new players and to test out the shapes and styles he wants to play, with Rohl looking set to chop and change between a back-four and a back-five next time round.
And one player who fans are particularly eager to see fare in the Championship is midfielder Svante Ingelsson.

Danny Rohl explains the role that Svante Ingelsson will play at Sheffield Wednesday
The 6ft2 Swedish midfielder has joined Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer after leaving 2.Bundesliga outfit Rostock last season.
He played alongside Barry Bannan in the Wednesday midfield during part of the last friendly vs Werder Bremen, putting himself about nicely in what was Will Vaulks’ role last season.
Speaking to The Star, Rohl explained that he wants 26-year-old Ingelsson to be a box-to-box player for Sheffield Wednesday next season, and to provide the Owls with the drive and pace in the middle.
Rohl said: “This is the part we have to improve, he has played more in the eight or the 10 and I think with his power in the sprint he can be a six.
“He can be a box-to-box player and in the past it is what I have missed from our midfield players, to have someone who can really accelerate our game and cover bases.”
Rohl also tipped Ingelsson to improve as a player next season, adding: “I think he will improve a lot, for him there are a lot of new things.
“The feedback has been good, he has enjoyed the time with us and he will be a big, big part of the new season.”

One player can help Svante Ingelsson improve at Sheffield Wednesday
Rohl and his impressive caching staff will no doubt enable Ingelsson and the rest of the Sheffield Wednesday players to improve, and fulfil their potential in the coming years.
For Ingelsson though, club captain Bannan may be a great source of inspiration and expertise.
Playing alongside the long-serving Owls man, Ingelsson will pick up no-end of tips and pointers as the Championship season goes on.
Ingelsson seems like a more physical, athletic-type midfielder, whereas Bannan is perhaps the more technical one, so in that sense, Ingelsson can improve the technical side of his game by simply playing alongside Bannan and taking in what he does on the pitch.
That may be extra important for Sheffield Wednesday and for Rohl next season, as at the end of the season, Bannan may well be moving on.
