A former Sheffield Wednesday star is in limbo over his next potential transfer move.

Last summer, another horde of players in the English Football League were released. And whilst some were snapped up straight away, others weren’t.

Among those who left Hillsborough included Cameron Dawson and Reece James who both headed to Rotherham United, whilst George Byers stayed a free agent for some weeks, then linked up with former Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore at Port Vale in League Two.

Among others, those three have left S6 and have endured mixed results since. Meanwhile there were a number of free agent signings for Danny Rohl’s side, including Jamal Lowe and Nathaniel Chalobah to name a couple.

One former Sheffield Wednesday man who became a free agent this summer is Adam Reach. The 31-year-old was let go by West Brom after a three-year spell.

He previously joined Sheffield Wednesday from Middlesbrough in a £5million deal under Carlos Carvalhal in 2016, making 230 total appearances during a five-year spell, scoring 24 and assisting 34.

Former Sheffield Wednesday star Adam Reach on trial with Swansea City

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Reach was on trial with Swansea City, which coincidentally is who the Owls play in the Championship on Tuesday night.

But Reach technically remains a free agent. Speaking last week, Swans boss Luke Williams revealed that there’s still a chance Reach is handed a deal, along with Cyrus Christie who is also on trial with the Welsh club.

Williams told Wales Online: “We had a good look at them [Reach and Christie]. They trained today. We have had a chance to have a look at these guys and they have had a look at us as well.”

Then asked if there’s a chance that Reach or Christie are handed contracts, Williams continued: “Some. I think probably I can’t tell you things at the moment because we haven’t had the discussions first.”

Adam Reach opens up on difficult spell without a club

During an interview earlier this month, Reach discussed his wait to find a new club following his West Brom release at the end of last season.

He said: “The whole world is an option for me right now.

“I think I’m just shy of 400 games in the Championship, but I’m not naive enough to think that I deserve to be in the Championship just because I’ve played there for the last ten years or whatever.

“If there’s an opportunity that comes up pretty much anywhere, I’d jump at the chance.”

Adam Reach stats at West Brom, and what the Baggies fans thought

During his three-year spell at The Hawthorns, Reach made 79 appearances, managing just the two goals and four assists.

Compared to his stint with Wednesday, Reach became much less of an attacking player, and much less of a starting player too.

Reach made just 29 starts for the Baggies in three years; 21 of those came in his first season, three in his next and five last time round, with Reach often suffering from muscle injuries.

He was also deployed as something of a utility man, filling in wherever Carlos Corberan needed him to.

A quick search on social media shows that West Brom fans had very mixed reviews of Reach, who clearly proved to be a divisive payer after what was an overall tough spell at The Hawthorns.

Sheffield Wednesday against Swansea City kicks off at 7:45pm at Hillsborough on Tuesday.
