Sheffield Wednesday could be active in the January transfer window, like they were during the summer.

Sheffield Wednesday saw their first-team squad overhauled during the summer transfer window, with plenty coming and going.

A number of names were released or returned to loan clubs, whilst nine new players were brought in at Hillsborough.

The January transfer window is now rapidly approaching. Here, we look at five names who could leave S6 in January either on loan or permanently…

Callum Paterson could leave Sheffield Wednesday in January

Callum Paterson is an obvious candidate to leave in January, with his contract out next summer and with the Scot barely featuring right now.

Danny Rohl has handed Paterson just one Championship appearance this season; during the 2-1 win vs Coventry City with Paterson playing the final few minutes.

Paterson had interest during the summer transfer window but stayed in S6.

Pierce Charles

Northern Ireland goalkeeper Pierce Charles has only featured in the Carabao Cup this season.

Like Paterson, Charles had transfer interest during the summer but was kept at Wednesday owing to an injury to Ben Hamer.

With Hamer now on the mend, January could be a good chance to send Charles out on loan, with Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill urging Charles to seal a loan move.

Pol Valentin

Spanish right-back Pol Valentin is a huge fan favourite at Sheffield Wednesday. But he faces an uncertain future.

Now back-up to Yan Valery, Valentin has been linked with Maccabi Tel Aviv ahead of his contract expiry at the end of this season.

If Wednesday can’t agree a deal with Valentin then it might make sense to cash in on him in January.

Charlie McNeill

Summer signing Charlie McNeill has been truly exiled by Rohl so far, and fans can’t really figure out why.

He scored twice on his debut against Hull City in the Carabao Cup but the 21-year-old hasn’t featured in the league at all.

McNeill has only been named in two matchday squads in the Championship so far, and so for both him and the club, a loan exit could be ideal in January.

Sean Fusire

A loan exit could also be the best bet for academy midfielder Sean Fusire, who was on the bench vs Coventry City last time out.

Fusire has impressed in the Carabao Cup this season but is yet to make his Championship debut for the Owls.

If Rohl and the club can find a suitable loan club for the 19-year-old, then it would be a great chance for him to develop ahead of next season.
