Sheffield Wednesday have made a solid if unspectacular start to the 2024/25 Championship campaign under Danny Rohl.

It’s the first full campaign for the German manager at Hillsborough and his own stamp on things has been evident this season.

The Owls enjoyed a huge week going into the international break, with seven points coming from three games.

First, Rohl oversaw a 3-2 win over high-flying West Brom and then claimed an important point during a trip to Bristol City.

On Saturday, the Owls enjoyed arguably their best day of the season so far, defeating Coventry City with a late goal from Shea Charles who proved very impressive.

Alex Miller raved about Di’Shon Bernard for his defensive work during the clash in the Midlands but it was a special day for another member of the back four too.

Pol Valentin sends message to Sheffield Wednesday supporters

It’s fair to say that the tenure of Xisco Munoz won’t live too fondly in the memory of the club’s supporters.

This time last year, Wednesday were staring down the barrel of a return to League One with just two points on the board.

One positive thing he did do, however, was bring Pol Valentin to the football club from Sporting Gijon.

He arrived as an unknown quantity but has quickly proved himself as someone who can produce the goods in the Championship.

Valentin played the full 90 minutes on Saturday to bring up 50 appearances for the Owls, starting the game as a right-sided wing-back.

Today, he posted on X: “So happy to achieve this number with this incredible club. I hope for a lot more. Thanks to all the fans for your support.”

Rohl has to consider starting Valentin more often

The Spanish performer made just his second start for the Owls in the Championship this season on Saturday, with his first coming in August.

Valentin is a very capable performer and against Coventry, he showcased what he can bring to the table.

According to Who Scored, he won three aerial duels that he contested and finished with a pass success ratio of 77.8%.

Defensively he was sound too, winning two tackles, three interceptions and completing a single clearance during the 90-minute outing.

Wednesday do have quality players all over the pitch right now and there is even strength in depth from the bench these days.

However, Valentin can count himself very unlucky not to have earned more starts this season and after Saturday, he might have given Rohl some food for thought.
