Sheffield Wednesday have shown signs of improvement in comparison to life under Xisco Munoz.
The late away victory against Coventry City saw Sheffield Wednesday pick up their third win of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.
Whilst it hasn’t been the best of starts for Danny Rohl’s side, and the optimism that brewed in the summer hasn’t quite translated into results on the pitch, however the performances have certainly improved, with Sheffield Wednesday’s several new signings beginning to gel.
Sheffield Wednesday have looked to make Hillsborough Stadium a difficult place to go at present, and the recent win on their travels against the Sky Blues shows that they are making strides to rectify their fairly lacklustre away form.
Whilst it hasn’t been the best of starts to the season, it certainly shows a massive improvement to the 2023/24 Sheffield Wednesday side that started the campaign under former boss Xisco Munoz.

Sheffield Wednesday 2024/25 season compared to life under Xisco Munoz
The Owls’ start to the 2023/24 campaign under former Sheffield Wednesday boss Munoz was staggeringly bad, who famously led his side to zero league wins, and one in his entire tenure in all competitions if you count a plucky EFL First Round victory at home to Stockport County on penalties.
Nine games into the season, it shows a clear improvement under Rohl, whose side currently sit 15th with 11 points in comparison to Munoz’s side that picked up just two in the same amount of time.
When it comes to goals scored, Munoz’s side had scored five goals, in comparison to Rohl’s 11, and there is also an improvement that has derived from the clearer defensive shape under the German boss, whose side have conceded three less at this point of the campaign to last season.

Sheffield Wednesday have clear identity under Danny Rohl
Whilst the Owls haven’t quite been picking up all the results they require to find themselves in the higher echelons of the Championship table, they have without a doubt been able to play with a clear identity, and Rohl is certainly getting his style of play across to the Sheffield Wednesday ranks.
Like his start to life in S6, Rohl has once again managed to find his best starting 11 that will likely be utilised often this season, and whilst on the surface it seems like an easy fate for a manager, that is what the former Owls boss Munoz was unable to accomplish.
Expectations were set very high for Sheffield Wednesday as many believed that Rohl with his own squad and signings would be able to help the Owls rocket up the league, and whilst this hasn’t quite happened yet, it seems as if the cogs are beginning to turn in the 2024/25 Championship campaign, and it will be no surprise to see the season turned around from this point.
