Sheffield Wednesday may be ruing their decision to keep one player over the summer. And he himself may be ruing the fact that he didn’t leave.
Sheffield Wednesday were active in the summer transfer window, signing nine players after letting a number of first-team names go.
Several departed either as free agents or when their loan deals expired. It paved the way for a new-look Owls team under Danny Rohl, albeit with a lot of the foundations of last season still existing.
Barry Bannan signed a new Sheffield Wednesday contract and continues to prove his worth to the side.
Others who signed new deals include Dominic Iorfa, Josh Windass, and Liam Palmer, who make up a lot of the core of the first-team.
Their experience is dependable and often called upon during tough runs of form. One player who may also fall into that category is Callum Paterson.
But the Scot is hardly in Rohl’s plans this season, having featured in all three Carabao Cup fixtures so far, but having yet to play in the Championship.

Callum Paterson had summer transfer interest at Sheffield Wednesday
Paterson, who earns £18,000-a-week at Sheffield Wednesday per Capology, played 25 times in the Championship last season, grabbing just one assist.
It wasn’t his best season for the Owls. But the 29-year-old played his part, filling in numerous positions and always giving his all on the pitch.
The former Cardiff City man is out of contract next summer. Over the summer just gone, it was claimed that Paterson was up for sale, and it was later revealed that there was transfer interest in Paterson.
But for whatever reason, Paterson was kept at Hillsborough, where he’s almost completely exiled in the Championship.

Owls face Lee Gregory repeat with Callum Paterson
Paterson’s current situation feels a lot like Lee Gregory’s last season; out of contract at the end of the campaign but kept at the club, where he isn’t playing.
Wednesday didn’t make any more signings after Shea Charles and so Rohl may have known that his squad was settled.
And he would’ve known that Paterson wasn’t really in his plans, especially with so many attacking additions over the summer.
Keeping Paterson, whether there was strong interest or even bids on the table, seems foolish now; Wednesday could no doubt have pushed his exit through if there was transfer interest.
Now, Paterson either faces an entire season in the doldrums, or faces a potential January move, for which Wednesday will surely receive a tiny fee.
