Coventry City win proved Danny Rohl can now fix his one biggest problem at Sheffield Wednesday

One issue has been ever-prominent throughout Danny Rohl’s reign as Sheffield Wednesday boss.

The Owls are currently into the early stages of a run in form that will hopefully turn around what was a lacklustre start to the 2024/25 Championship campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday managed a surprise victory on the road against Coventry City, a win that saw midfield signing Shea Charles star in the centre-of-the-park with a brilliantly taken finish to send his side home with all three points in the dying embers.

Danny Rohl did incredibly well in setting up his side against a Coventry City side who, despite being somewhat out of form, are by no means a walkover in the Championship, with his side still performing despite an array of changes within the side.

It showed that Rohl’s side are on course to finally rectify one glaring Sheffield Wednesday issue, although he must follow suit in the next run of games.

Danny Rohl must fix Sheffield Wednesday struggles away from home

There is no doubting that Sheffield Wednesday have managed to make Hillsborough Stadium somewhat of a fortress ever since Rohl took the reins, and that has been crucial for the Owls in their bid to get points on the board.

However, there is still a prominent issue that involves Sheffield Wednesday’s form away from home, with them notching just one win on the road so far this campaign, albeit they have faced difficult opposition with the likes of tabletoppers Sunderland.

There was a similar story in the 2023/24 campaign, with Rohl’s side seven wins away from home.

It seems as if there is some difficulty when it comes to Rohl’s side coming up against tougher opposition on their travels, as it is often seen that Sheffield Wednesday often don’t come up with the goods when up against the cosh.

Sheffield Wednesday must build on Coventry City victory

There is no doubt that it was expected that Rohl’s side would attempt to remain tight against Coventry City at the CBS Arena, but they would likely not manage to hold out for the full 90 minutes against the side, however they did incredibly well to quash the threat of the hosts.

If Sheffield Wednesday and Rohl can continue this onto the next away game of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, which sees them face Portsmouth on their travels, they will without a doubt fly up the table.

A clash against Portsmouth may not be the best indicator of being able to weather the storm of a top side on the road, but Sheffield Wednesday will certainly benefit in future games if they are able to take the game to the opposition and look to rectify any defensive mishaps along the way.

Issues in front of goal up until this point have also deflated their opportunities of bagging points on the road, and this is another clear issue that Rohl must look towards fixing.
