Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass was absent from the win away at Coventry City.
The Owls managed to come away with a brilliant win on their travels following a 2-1 victory against Coventry City, the first away three points of the 2024/25 Championship campaign.
Sheffield Wednesday were rightly praised for their performance by opposition coach Mark Robins and how organised they were, and there were also several standouts in the side, including goalscorer Shea Charles.
What makes the fate of an away win for Danny Rohl’s side even greater is the injuries and absences that Rohl has had to deal with.
One of which is Josh Windass, who wasn’t involved in the match day squad, despite notching minutes in every single Championship game this season up until this point.
Rohl has commented on his unexpected exclusion from the Sheffield Wednesday squad.

Danny Rohl opens up on Josh Windass absence for Sheffield Wednesday
Whilst Sheffield Wednesday star Windass hasn’t been quite up to his very best level so far in the 2024/25 Championship season, he has managed two goals, which makes up 20% of those scored by Rohl’s side.
It would certainly be no tactical move from Rohl to fully drop the attacker, and he has since commented on his absence.
Per Alex Miller on X, Rohl has said that ‘he’ll be managed in busy weeks’, with there also being the likelihood that ‘personal reasons’ could be involved as the reasons behind his exclusion from the squad.

Josh Windass exclusion gave necessary opportunity to Djeidi Gassama
The Owls started with a frontline that consisted of Djeidi Gassama, and the surprise pick managed to pay off for Sheffield Wednesday.
The French attacker bagged his first goal of the season, on his first start for Rohl’s side in five league games, and it was an incredibly well-hit goal into the roof of the net that beat the flat-footed Coventry City goalkeeper.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl will be glad that the 21-year-old grasped the opportunity to make a difference for the side with both hands, and there is every chance that Gassama could look to tie down the spot following a solid performance.
Gassama without a doubt deserves a spell in the starting line up for Sheffield Wednesday following the patience that he has shown, as whilst he can be relied upon to make an impact, he has been an unused sub at times this season, and whilst there is plenty of competition for attacking places, he certainly should be rewarded with a run of games.
