The longest-serving Championship manager Mark Robins has praised Danny Rohl’s style at Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl has become one of the most fascinating managers in the Championship. Last season, of course, Rohl pulled off a survival miracle by keeping Sheffield Wednesday in the second tier.

Many expected the Owls to build on that strong end to the season, with Opta predicting Sheffield Wednesday to finish in mid-table.

That is a realistic ambition for the Yorkshire side this term, as while they’ve lost four of their first eight games, they’re only three points off 11th-place Oxford United.

Wednesday recently secured a 0-0 draw against Bristol City in midweek and there were some mixed performances as fans criticised the display of Ike Ugbo while James Beadle was praised by journalist Dom Howson.

Now, attention turns to their clash against Coventry City, with manager Mark Robins commenting on Rohl’s style at Hillsborough.

Wednesday can expect a tough test when they travel to Coventry. In the previous two campaigns, they’ve finished in fifth and ninth position, with Robins targeting another play-off finish this term.

Although they haven’t got off to the best start with eight points from as many games, their 3-0 thrashing of Blackburn Rovers could be the turning point in their season.

Speaking ahead of their meeting with the Owls, Robins explained what is ‘different’ about Rohl’s style while praising the attributes of his opponents, including their physical outputs, pressing and ability in the air.

“We need to go in with the same intensity, whatever team I pick, and set about the job the way we’ve got to do against a really well organised and well-drilled team,” Robins said via Coventry’s official website.

“They’re athletic and their physical outputs are good, and they work really hard and have a method of playing where they try and put you under pressure and their press is good, so we know what’s coming.

“The ball gets played forward from time to time and they’ve got physical players up front that can win the aerial duels, and it will be a different game and a different challenge to what we faced on Tuesday night, but we want a similar performance in terms of what we do and the energy we bring.”

Sheffield Wednesday can catch Coventry on the break

Coventry play some easy-on-the-eye football under Robins and particularly at home, like to enjoy most of the ball.

Wednesday must defend the moments of pressure resolutely and look to hit the Sky Blues on the break through the threatening Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama, with that duo capable of wreaking havoc.

That said, the Owls have also shown they’re willing to press high, as touched upon by Robins and executing an effective press could unsettle the hosts while building the platform for an away win.

It promises to be an exciting encounter at the Ricoh Arena, with the visitors looking for their first win over Coventry in six attempts.
