Sheffield Wednesday are currently out-ranking every Premier League team for one impressive statistic this season.
Sheffield Wednesday certainly haven’t enjoyed the best start to this season. But they’re definitely showing signs of improvement.
Going into the September international break, Danny Rohl’s side were in 20th place of the Championship table.
Going into this month’s international break, the Owls are in 15th, having lost just one of their five Championship games since the return of football last month.
Last time out, the Owls beat Coventry City 2-1 away from Hillsborough and now find themselves just a point from the top of the table, and five points from the top six.
Fans won’t get carried away again, like after the opening day win against Plymouth Argyle. But Rohl has quickly re-instilled the belief into fans.
His side are showing that ‘never say die’ attitude that kept them in the league last season, which is evident in the goals they’re scoring.

Sheffield Wednesday top impressive goals statistic for this season
So far this season, Sheffield Wednesday have scored 11 goals in nine Championship games, albeit with four of those coming against Plymouth.
But the Owls have now scored more injury time goals (goals after the 90th minute) than any Premier League team has this season.
Sheffield Wednesday have scored three goals past the 90-minute mark this season, with Plymouth the only Championship team having as many injury time goals.
Rohl’s men have netted late goals against Plymouth, QPR, and Coventry, whilst Anthony Musaba’s late winner against West Brom came in the 86th minute.
Late goals shows togetherness at Sheffield Wednesday
Scoring so many late goals can’t be a coincidence. Instead, it shows that Rohl has instilled a real battling attitude into his players.
Even when 4-0 down to Sunderland, or behind against Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday still battle to the end.
And even when ahead in games, the Owls still search for more goals, which can be a hindrance at times, but always gives the fans an entertaining watch.
The Owls still have a long way to go this season if they’re to beat their 20th place finish in the Championship last time round.
After a shaky start, fans will know to manage their expectations for this season. But a few more wins could put Wednesday into play-off contention, and then it’ll give everyone a new expectation for the Owls this season.
