Sheffield Wednesday played in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday played against Aston Villa in a behind-closed-doors friendly match on Wednesday.

Despite a congested run of games coming into this month’s break, and despite a congested run coming out of this break with seven games in 22 days, Danny Rohl put his side against the Premier League and Champions League outfit Villa.

And by all accounts, the Owls held their own. The Star reported that the game ended 2-1 to Villa, who fielded a strong XI.

Sheffield Wednesday fielded a strong XI. With players away on international duty, it was thought that Rohl would field a makeshift XI against Villa.

But he used the game to test his side against strong opposition, and now he’ll be hoping that the run-out won’t have fatigued his players any more than necessary, with a tough game against Burnley coming up later in the month.

Olaf Kobacki injury latest at Sheffield Wednesday

Last time out, for the 2-1 win at Coventry City, Rohl was without a few of his first-team players, including Liam Palmer and Olaf Kobacki.

Palmer and Kobacki picked up muscle injuries against Bristol City at the start of October and were subsequently left out of the game against Coventry.

Both had been playing important roles up until then. But it seems as though Kobacki’s injury was only very minor, as it was he who scored the only goal against Villa.

Kobacki joined Sheffield Wednesday from Polish second tier outfit Arka during the summer, with the Owls paying a transfer fee for the 23-year-old.

Olaf Kobacki can play a key role for Sheffield Wednesday this season

After a fairly slow start, with Kobacki eased into this whole new league of football, the Pole is really starting to shine.

He’s featured six times in the Championship; Kobacki is yet to record a goal contribution but he’s certainly showing glimpses of a very good player.

Kobacki is very combative and energetic and offers something a bit different to the likes of Djeidi Gassama and Anthony Musaba.

Although still very technically good, Kobacki seems like the more physical-type winger, capable of unsettling defenders and generally causing unrest in the final third.

Getting on the scoresheet against Villa is a good sign, and it also suggests to us that he’s fit and ready to go against Burnley at Hillsborough later this month.
