Josh Windass is often a talking point among Sheffield Wednesday fans.

Be it for good or bad, Josh Windass is someone who Sheffield Wednesday fans often find themselves talking about.

During his four years at Hillsborough, Windass has scored 41 and assisted 17 more in 141 total games for the Owls.

Windass scored the goal that earned Sheffield Wednesday promotion from League One last year, also scoring the penultimate goal of last season too.

At the back end of the 2023/24 campaign, Windass scored three in three as Danny Rohl guided Wednesday to their great escape.

But this season, Windass has been a divisive figure; Sheffield Wednesday fans criticised Windass last month following the 4-0 defeat vs Sunderland.

Then during the 1-1 draw vs QPR last time out, the 30-year-old played well overall, but Windass was slammed for his ‘woeful’ finishing.

It’s been a tough start to the 2024/25 season for the Owls who currently sit in 20th place of the Championship table.

Josh Windass was fuming with Danny Rohl following Sheffield Wednesday axe

There’s been calls for Windass, among others, to be dropped from the starting XI.

And ahead of the 3-0 defeat vs Millwall in the Championship at the end of last month, Rohl did drop Windass.

Speaking to The Star, Windass has now revealed how he was fuming with Rohl after being axed vs Millwall.

Windass said: “It was a surprise. I think the manager knew I was angry but I trained the same as I always train and I try and reflect that to the rest of my team-mates.

“I don’t speak a lot to them but I try to show them with the way I act and the way I train.

“I think the gaffer could tell by the way I trained that I wasn’t happy but that’s football – we’ve got a good team and you’re not always going to play when you’ve got good players.

“I’m angry, but it’s all good. I know what I can do and I know what my teammates can do.”

Josh Windass is missing one thing at Sheffield Wednesday right now

Against QPR, Windass certainly looked lively, as did the team as a whole.

Windass got into some good scoring positions and he’ll no doubt be gutted that he didn’t get on the score-sheet at least once.

And that’s what’s missing from his game right now; goals.

Windass has one in five so far this season but he should have a couple more, and once he gets one more under his belt, following this tough patch of form, he’ll gain some confidence back.

He’s proved his worth in the past and he’ll no doubt play a key role again this season.
