The last two games have sprung up a lot of different emotions for Sheffield Wednesday fans.
The 2-0 defeat against Burnley felt like a hard one to take. But having mostly held their own against a much better side, Sheffield Wednesday could take plenty of positives from the game.
On Tuesday, the following game against Swansea City at Hillsborough felt, not so much like a ‘must win’, more a game where we needed to see some bite from Sheffield Wednesday.
But Danny Rohl’s side failed to register a single shot on goal. Sheffield Wednesday fans blasted Svante Ingelsson on social media after the game, as the Swede’s lacklustre display summed up the night.
Swansea had the only shot on target during the game, forcing a ‘world-class’ save from James Beadle who arguably saved his team a point against the Swans.
Next up is a sold-out trip to Portsmouth on Friday night. Ahead of the trip, Rohl spoke to the press on Thursday.
Danny Rohl addresses Sheffield Wednesday booing after Swansea City
At full-time on Tuesday night, there were some light boos ringing around Hillsborough after what was a very bland and difficult game to watch.
When quizzed on the booing during his Thursday presser, Rohl had this to say: “Even in this situation, I take it. If they [the fans] have an opinion, I have a different opinion.”
Rohl also went on to reveal that the players shared the fans’ discontent after the match, adding: “When I look to the game, I have the feeling, that’s one thing.
“My team invest every time I think, and they said also in the changing room, ‘we are not happy’ because the result.
“But my point is to come back, and give them a clear picture, how was the performance… I think it’s more helpful that we support each other; during the game, after the game.”
Away game may do Sheffield Wednesday some good
After a couple of tough games at Hillsborough, where the atmosphere can change in an instant, travelling far away from Yorkshire on Friday could actually be quite timely for the Owls.
Pompey currently sit in last place of the Championship table compared to the Owls in 18th and have won just the one league game all season.
John Mousinho’s Portsmouth are also facing a goalkeeper crisis ahead of the game on Friday night, so there’s certainly a few things playing into Wednesday’s favour.
Fans must remain patient with Rohl and this project. It’s a complete rebuild of a team who just a few weeks ago were beating the likes of West Brom and Coventry City.
A win against Portsmouth would put some wind back in the sails.
