Journalist Joe Crann has heaped praise on one unlikely Sheffield Wednesday star this season.
For Sheffield Wednesday in this 2024/25 season, there’s certainly some positives and some negatives to draw upon.
There’s been some big wins and good performances. But there’s also been some poor results and performances, with the 0-0 draw against Swansea City on Tuesday proving to be a frustrating one.
There’s no consistency in the results under Danny Rohl at the minute, who seems to be getting frustrated with his Sheffield Wednesday players.
The Owls currently sit in 18th place of the Championship table and take on Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Friday night, with Sheffield Wednesday fans having sold out the trip to the south coast.
There, they’ll be looking to names like Shea Charles and Barry Bannan to make things happen, and Josh Windass to get on the scoresheet on his likely return to the XI.
Another player who’ll be expected to perform is Akin Famewo.

Joe Crann praise for Akin Famewo at Sheffield Wednesday
Famewo, 25, has been in fine form for Sheffield Wednesday this season, making his seventh Championship appearance of the season last time out against the Swans.
He’s made the left centre-back position in this back-five formation his. The Englishman’s form has been so good that Sheffield Wednesday want to offer Famewo a new contract, with his current contract expiring next summer.
Speaking on All Wednesday, journalist Joe Crann hailed Famewo’s season so far, saying: “He really looks the part in terms of the way he’s playing, but also physically he looks the part. He really looks in great nick.
“How many times this season have we seen him belting back to block a shot? His recoveries seem to be good, and he’s reading the game well.
“He seems to have really adapted nicely to the way that Danny wants to play; he’s getting his foot on the ball, he’s trying to pass it out.
“I think there’s a lot of people this season who’ll have looked at Akin and been really impressed by what he’s doing.”
