Former Sheffield Wednesday cult heroes have penned messages to Barry Bannan after the win vs West Brom.
The Owls managed to turn around their unsatisfactory start to the season in some style as they saw off a strong West Brom side at Sheffield Wednesday in a 3-2 win.
Danny Rohl’s side thoroughly deserved to get three points on the board for the very first time this season since the 2024/25 Championship opener which saw the Owls knock four past Plymouth Argyle.
It was quite a fate for Sheffield Wednesday and Rohl to hand West Brom their first defeat of the season, and it is clear that the side have gelled over the past few weeks, with Marvin Johnson particularly making a difference ever since his resurgence.
Whilst the form of many of the players in the side have been differing, one of the few constants in the side has been Barry Bannan, who has been constantly pulling his side out of the mire, especially with his two well-hit goals against Luton Town and QPR.
As usual, he put on a brilliant showing in the West Brom victory, and he has been praised for his efforts by several Sheffield Wednesday legends.

Sheffield Wednesday legends pen messages to Barry Bannan after West Brom masterclass
Bannan continues to be defying the odds as being one of the best midfielders in the Championship and is still continuing his everlasting trend of controlling and dictating the play in the centre-of-the-park, as he has done ever since he joined the Owls.
His qualities have unsurprisingly been recognised once again following the West Brom win as many former Sheffield Wednesday players commented on his recent post on Instagram.
Former Owls defender Chey Dunkley wrote: “Mr Consistent – I like you playing No6 “That Pirlo role” – BUT YOU Closer to goal is something else 🤩🤤 (goals/ 🅰️Goals/ 🅰️/Goals🅰️).”
Atdhe Nuhiu also penned a three-word message to the Sheffield Wednesday number 10, where he wrote: “That’s my man 🔥❤️,” whilst current Port Vale midfielder George Byers, who is playing under Darren Moore, wrote: “The 🐐 man 🔥🔥🔥💙.”

Sheffield Wednesday recent blip has proven Barry Bannan to be instrumental for the Owls
It is evidently clear that heads certainly dropped during the Owls’ five game winless run, especially after the soul-crushing defeat away at Kenilworth Road, where Sheffield Wednesday undoubtedly deserved to return back to S6 with at least a point against Luton Town.
Rohl must be given plenty of credit for not letting the pressure get under his skin, however the deciding factor in Sheffield Wednesday’s turnaround that saw them beat West Brom at home has to be Owls ‘baller’ Bannan.
He has been incredibly instrumental for the Owls in recent weeks, and has been effortlessly creating several chances, whilst also proving to be Rohl’s only successful goal output, scoring the only two goals in the five game winless streak.
It can’t be emphasised enough how important it is to have Bannan in the side and the impact he brings; it is a given that Sheffield Wednesday certainly wouldn’t be in the Championship without him.
