Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to record a third-straight win against Preston North End this weekend, but Danny Rohl will have a handful of players missing.

It’s safe to say Sheffield Wednesday have found their rhythm of late, with back-to-back victories on the road, capped by that thrilling comeback against Derby County on Sunday.

The Owls are now up to 12th place in the Championship table, and Danny Rohl’s men will be eyeing a push for the play-offs with the way things are going right now.

However, as we look ahead to Sheffield Wednesday taking on Preston North End, there are a few absentees that will give Rohl a selection decision to make.

Barry Bannan will miss Preston North End game through suspension

The big story going into the clash with Preston is that Sheffield Wednesday captain, Barry Bannan, will miss the game after picking up a one-game suspension for his fifth yellow card of the season.

There was some confusion over Bannan’s potential suspension, but it has since been confirmed that the 35-year-old will indeed have to sit out the next game.

It is likely Nathaniel Chalobah could come in for his first start of the season, after playing his first minutes during the win over Derby.

Sheffield Wednesday have two players out injured, but one should return

We know Akin Famewo has a long way to go in his recovery from injury, and will not be back until March 2025.

However, Olaf Kobacki is a lot closer to his return and should be training within a fortnight. Still, the Preston game will be too soon for the young winger.

Meanwhile, there’s good news on one front, as Ike Ugbo is looking likely to be back in time for the Preston clash after missing the win over Derby with a minor injury.

Sheffield Wednesday’s star defender back from suspension, one at risk

Danny Rohl will be boosted by the return of Di’Shon Bernard, with the Jamaica international having served his one-game suspension for reaching five yellow cards for the season.

He will almost certainly slot straight back into the backline, replacing Dominic Iorfa after his ‘shocking’ display against Derby.

The rest of the Sheffield Wednesday lineup vs Preston should be unaffected, but Rohl will have to keep an eye on Yan Valery, who is still on four bookings, and will need to get through the next game without another lest he face a suspension of his own.

Booking tallies reset after the next game. Sheffield Wednesday face Preston North End on Saturday, December 7, with a 12:30 kick-off time.
