Sheffield Wednesday look set to miss out on this one transfer target, who seems poised to move to League One Charlton Athletic.
Sheffield Wednesday have been active in the January transfer window so far.
Danny Rohl has overseen a couple of new signings, bringing in goalkeeper James Beadle on loan from Brighton and striker Ike Ugbo from Troyes.
Another name in Conor Coventry has been closely linked; the West Ham midfielder has looked set to leave the Hammers this month and the Owls fancied a permanent deal for the 23-year-old.
But Coventry is instead set to sign for Charlton Athletic.

South London Press journalist Richard Cawley revealed on X last night that Coventry is ‘set to be confirmed’ as a Charlton Athletic player this morning, adding that Coventry’s representatives ‘withdrew from talks with Sheffield Wednesday’ yesterday afternoon.

Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday certainly seemed keen on Coventry.
He’s young and still has plenty of potential, so he could’ve been someone that Rohl moulded into the player he wants to bolster a midfield that has already lost John Buckley and Tyreeq Bakinson this month.
And it seems like Coventry himself has opted for the move to Charlton given Cawley’s post on X; the Addicks currently sit in 13th place of the League One table and have won just one of their last 11 in all competitions.
It could well be a monetary thing with Wednesday unlikely to offer bumper wages at the minute given their apparent financial struggles, or it could be a location factor given the fact that Coventry has been with West Ham for so many years.
Either way, it’s a blow for Sheffield Wednesday, but Rohl won’t dwell on it.
He and Head of Recruitment Kevin Beadell will have other targets in mind and they’ll surely be working on getting those players into Hillsborough before the end of the month, with the window steadily ticking away.
It looks set to be an exciting transfer window on the whole, though the main task for Sheffield Wednesday this season remains Championship survival.
Up next for the Owls is a trip to Southampton; the Saints currently sit in 3rd place of the Championship and haven’t lost in 19 games in all competitions.
