Ike Ugbo’s shirt number at Sheffield Wednesday has been revealed after his loan switch to Hillsborough was confirmed today.

Ike Ugbo had only been linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday for a matter of days, but the club have now confirmed the move has already been completed.

The striker spent the first half of the campaign on loan from Troyes with Cardiff City, netting three goals in his first four games in the Championship.

However, Ugbo went onto only manage one goal since August and had more recently struggled to regain his place in the starting line-up.

Sheffield Wednesday have now confirmed that the 25-year-old will swap Wales for Yorkshire, signing for The Owls on loan until the end of the season.

Ugbo began his career with Chelsea and has previously played with a number of EFL clubs including Barnsley and MK Dons.

The Canada international has also lined up alongside Anthony Musaba at Belgian side Cercle Brugge, where the pair scored a combined total of 22 goals during the 2020-21 season.

The Star journalist Joe Crann has confirmed that Troyes recalled Ugbo in order to send him back out to Wednesday, as opposed to Cardiff terminating his loan deal themselves.

Meanwhile, the club have confirmed which shirt number Ugbo will sport following his arrival at Hillsborough.

Which shirt number will Ike Ugbo wear?

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Ike Ugbo will occupy the number 12 shirt during his stay with the club.

The no. 12 shirt was previously taken by Leojo Davidson, who came up through the academy but only ever made two appearances in the Football League Trophy last season before he was released.

Glenn Loovens also wore the shirt number, as well as Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Liam Palmer Danny Batth and a host of other names.

Lee Gregory is currently The Owls’ number nine, while Mallik Wilks is 7, Michael Smith is 24 and Ashley Fletcher is 27.

Given that Gregory has been linked with a move away, it will be interesting to see whether Sheffield Wednesday will still look to bring someone in to take his shirt number, or whether a current player will be promoted to that spot.

It won’t matter to Ugbo though. He will be desperate to make his mark on that first team and earn himself a regular spot in the line-up, with or without the no.9 shirt.
