Ike Ugbo still remains the top priority for Sheffield Wednesday, despite Rohl’s side already consisting of new arrivals Jamal Lowe and Charlie McNeill.
However, they’ve found themselves in a tug of war with Championship rivals Sunderland in attaining the Canadian goalscorer, whilst former Cardiff City striker Sory Kaba remains a back-up choice.

There is no denying that Ugbo was pivotal for Sheffield Wednesday in staying up in the 2023/24 campaign, nor can it be disputed that Rohl was able to get the very best out of the Canadian international.
The signing of Ugbo was make-or-break last season, and that certainly hasn’t changed for the upcoming campaign, as Sheffield Wednesday could almost be losing out on a target that is certain to thrive under the German boss, something that will be difficult for the Owls to look past when observing other targets.
Rohl’s tactics will depend on Ugbo leading the line, or otherwise it could be detrimental to his plans if he tries to get the same style out of a different player, something that will definitely take time for the coach.

Pre-season performances have shown the signings to be gelling into a side that have competed against Bundesliga and La Liga sides, with striker Jamal Lowe gaining plaudits from his performance against Leganes in Liam Palmer’s testimonial game.
Despite Lowe’s performance, there still remains agitation over who will be leading the line this season for the Owls, with a striker very much top of Rohl’s wishlist this season.
Lowe certainly has enough Championship goal scoring assurance to be able to lead the line this season, however McNeill on the surface appears to be one for the future.
With the impending loan departure of Cadamarteri as well, not only will signing Ugbo be crucial for Rohl’s plans, but also necessary in terms of squad depth.
It can’t be emphasised enough how much Dejphon Chansiri must get a deal done for Ugbo, who will bolster Sheffield Wednesday’s frontline, and even their chances to surprise a few this season.
