Sheffield Wednesday will feel that they were let down by the officiating during their 2-1 defeat vs Luton Town.
Sheffield Wednesday were on their way to a much-needed, and long-awaited league win at Kenilworth Road on Saturday.
Barry Bannan scored an impressive volley and set the Owls up for what would’ve been a well-deserved win vs Luton Town. But the Hatters eventually won the game 2-1.
The comeback started when Di’Shon Bernard was sent off for an apparant handball which led to a Luton penalty; many deem the ball to have struck Bernard’s shoulder, though.
Sheffield Wednesday were denied a penalty of their own, before Carlton Morris scored his and Luton’s second, despite handling the ball before scoring.
Rob Staton has rued Sheffield Wednesday’s misfortune with regards to officiating, with Staton also critical of the officiating during the 1-1 draw vs QPR in the Championship game before.

One unbelievable statistic proves Sheffield Wednesday should’ve won at Luton Town
If Sheffield Wednesday had won the game vs Luton, there could’ve been very few complaints from the Hatters’ end.
Danny Rohl’s side were the better team before Bernard’s controversial sending off, recording 12 shots during the game, despite having 41% possession (Wednesday’s possession drastically decreased after going a man down).
The most shocking stat from the game though is with regards to those in goal; James Beadle made just one save during the game, compared to Thomas Kaminski’s five for Luton.
The Belgian shot-stopper was keeping Luton in the game before that sending off, and it proves that the Owls were well on top, and deserving of a draw at the very least.
One key problem remains at Sheffield Wednesday despite refereeing calls
Whilst Sheffield Wednesday will surely feel hard done by after the last two games, and even robbed after losing vs Luton, there’s still a key issue for the Owls to overcome.
Both QPR and Luton’s winning goals were avoidable, coming after the Wednesday defence failed to clear their lines right at the death.
Sheffield Wednesday are still lacking a solid, regular centre-back pairing, and with Bernard now suspended for the game vs West Brom next weekend, we’ll see yet another makeshift defence.
Rohl desperately needed a centre-back during the summer transfer window and now faces a stretch to January with his very limited, and currently out of form options at the back.
