Cadamarteri’s doubtful future at Sheffield Wednesday this season leaves a potential striker vacancy.
Sheffield Wednesday’s ongoing striker troubles have almost taken centre-stage and cast a cloud over what has been an astonishing pre-season so far for Danny Rohl’s side.
Nine new arrivals have entered Hillsborough ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, with key figures around the club committing their future to the club as well.
However, Rohl is still not massively happy with his striker options this summer, with Ike Ugbo still seen as Sheffield Wednesday’s top priority, with Sory Kaba available as a back-up option if the pursuit for the Canadian striker falls down.
Aside from the incomings, Bailey Cadamarteri’s future is in the air following loan interest from several League One clubs, leaving even less depth up top, something that could open up an option for a new Sheffield Wednesday signing to potentially cement a first-team spot.

Sheffield Wednesday signing Charlie McNeill must seize the opportunity to impress Danny Rohl
With Cadamarteri looking likely to be moved on temporarily for his development and the opportunity to potentially lead the line for a League One side, the potential of Charlie McNeill tying down a first-team spot opens up.
McNeill arrived this summer following his release from Manchester United.
Although it’ll be unlikely that the 20-year-old will start regularly ahead of new signing Jamal Lowe and either Ugbo or Kaba initially, McNeill could stake a claim to be in-and-around the first team set-up eventually and potentially get vital and necessary Championship experience, which will perfectly aid his development into a seasoned striker.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl could unlock the best in Charlie McNeill
McNeill has clearly showcased goalscoring ability during his career, particularly for Manchester United’s youth set-up, notably the 2020/21 season where he scored an incredible 24 goals in 21 U18 Premier League matches.
However, the former England U16 international is yet to prove this ability at senior level, with him scoring just three goals in 23 matches for both Newport County and Stevenage in separate loan spells.
Rohl undoubtedly will have noticed his talent and the potential he has, with the German boss also being one of the best Championship managers when it comes to the development of youngsters.
Like how Rohl was able to nurture Cadamarteri into a solid Championship striker last season, the same could be done with McNeill.
It’s clear that if he can translate his youth record into senior football, McNeill could be a force to be reckoned with in the 2024/25 Championship season.
