Sheffield Wednesday look to have been handed a blow in their pursuit of a Premier League gem.
Danny Rohl has snapped up nine players so far, but has made it clear that he still wants to add centre-backs and midfielders to his Sheffield Wednesday squad.
The Owls saw Tyreeq Bakinson, George Byers, Will Vaulks and Momo Diaby all leave the club this summer, leaving them with Barry Bannan as their only natural central midfielder.
Wednesday have since brought in Svante Ingelsson and Nathaniel Chalobah, but are eager to add more squad depth to their midfield.
After missing out on him in January, reports have claimed that Wednesday had reignited their interest in Brentford’s Myles Peart-Harris recently.
The 21-year-old spent the second half of the season at Portsmouth and scored twice in 12 appearances as they won the League One title.
It was originally believed that Peart-Harris could be sent back out on loan, with Swansea City and Oxford United also interested.
Sheffield Wednesday target could now stay at his current club
However, journalist Joe Crann has now claimed Wednesday could be forced to end their pursuit.
He wrote on X: “Hearing that Myles Peart-Harris has been impressing at Brentford this summer in preseason, with the club now considering not sending him out on loan at all.
“#SWFC one club who is keeping tabs on him – they may move on completely.”
Do the Owls need Myles Peart-Harris?
Peart-Harris had caught Wednesday’s eye in January and could have been a solid addition as they looked to score and create more goals, with Josh Windass and Callum Paterson both struggling with injuries.
However, the Owls’ pursuit of a new midfielder this summer surely shouldn’t be for a playmaker like Peart-Harris.
Chalobah is currently their only defensive option in the middle of the park and Rohl surely won’t want to rely entirely on him due to his lack of action last season.
Wednesday need to start looking at someone who can sit just in front of the defence, because they now have Windass, Paterson and Ingelsson who can all play in front of Bannan.
While Peart-Harris is clearly a huge talent, he is not want the Yorkshire outfit need and would be limited to minutes if he moved to Hillsborough anyway.
