Di’Shon Bernard has now signed a new contract with Sheffield Wednesday.

Di’Shon Bernard technically becomes Sheffield Wednesday’s 10th signing of the summer.

He became a free agent on July 1st but signed a new deal with the Owls on Thursday.

It comes after several weeks of back and forth regarding Bernard’s future, with the Jamaican international having had interest from elsewhere in the Championship.

Many expected Bernard to leave this summer. Bernard then caused commotion among Sheffield Wednesday fans on social media after posting a picture of some suitcases on Instagram earlier this week, with the caption ‘Ready for the next chapter’.

Since, Bernard has taken back to Instagram, posting ‘Time to unpack the suitcases’ after he put pen-to-paper on a new Sheffield Wednesday contract.

He becomes another signing in what’s been a very promising summer transfer window so far for Danny Rohl at Hillsborough, with hopes and expectations increasing for the upcoming 2024/25 Championship season.

And it appears Rohl has played a huge factor in Bernard’s return to the club.

Di’Shon Bernard explains Danny Rohl influence after signing new Sheffield Wednesday contract

Speaking to the club after signing his new contract, Bernard was asked whether or not Rohl staying, and Rohl himself was a factor behind his decision.

There was uncertainty over Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday future at the end of last season. Since, he’s signed a new three-year contract with the Owls.

Bernard said when asked if Rohl influenced his decision to sign a new contract: “100%. Me and the gaffer have a really great relationship.

“I know his talent and we both have the same goal, the same picture at the end of the tunnel, which is to get to the Premier League.”

Danny Rohl still has key Sheffield Wednesday issue to sort after Di’Shon Bernard return

Bernard returning is a huge boost for Sheffield Wednesday, and he’ll surely play another key role for the Owls next season.

But Rohl will need a least one more centre-back this summer, it seems.

Josh Windass has recently revealed that Rohl wants Sheffield Wednesday to play out from the back again next season.

The news caused debate among Sheffield Wednesday fans who want Rohl to ensure he has the players capable of playing such a way.

Bernard is, but there’s doubts over the likes of Michael Ihiekwe and Bambo Diaby, and an overall lack of depth at centre-back too.

Adding another centre-back after Bernard now seems like a priority for Sheffield Wednesday this summer.
