A close rival of Sheffield Wednesday are currently enduring an unexpectedly poor start to this 2024/25 season.
Sheffield Wednesday aren’t exactly enjoying a strong season either, with the Owls in 21st place of the Championship table after the opening six games.
Last time out, Sheffield Wednesday were leading against Luton Town, only to go down to ten men and eventually lose the game 2-1.
The refereeing decisions have since been criticised. But Wednesday lost their appeal against Di’Shon Bernard’s red card, and so he’ll miss the weekend clash vs West Brom at Hillsborough.
For Danny Rohl, it’s certainly a tough patch of form right now. And just down the road, Steve Evans is experiencing an equally tough patch with Rotherham United.
The Millers sit in 21st place of the League One table after seven games and just one win.
Over the summer, Rotherham United signed Cameron Dawson following his Wednesday release, along with Reece James.
Since then, Mallik Wilks has joined Rotherham United on loan from Wednesday.
Steve Evans addresses Rotherham United poor form
Speaking to Football Heaven ahead of his side’s clash vs Shrewsbury Town this weekend, Evans was forced to address the current unrest among Millers fans following the start to this season.
He said: “I’m not used to Millers fans booing and not being happy so that’s hard to take personally.
“But my job is to get in the trenches and fight so that’s not the case going forward.”
So far this season, both James and Wilks have featured six times each in League One, with Wilks scoring once, but having started the last seven games in all competitions.
Dawson though is yet to play a league match for Rotherham, instead featuring in just a handful of cup games so far this season.
Could Sheffield Wednesday pull Mallik Wilks out of Rotherham United
For Wilks this season, the aim was to be playing regular football and getting back in the goals after a tough spell with Sheffield Wednesday.
And he’s playing a lot, but not really scoring too many. Though that might be explained by Rotherham’s poor overall form.
Wilks doesn’t look like he has a future at Wednesday anymore. And with his contract out next summer, it seems unlikely that the club will care too much about his performances this season, or how his club is faring.
It’s the harsh reality for Wilks. But he’s proven in League One, and he could yet be the man to fire the Millers back up the table.
