Sheffield Wednesday fans critical of ‘most frustrating footballer’ ever after Leeds United loss

Sheffield Wednesday fans had plenty to say on social media on Friday night.

For a third time in as many Championship games in the 2024/25 season, Sheffield Wednesday were live on Sky Sports.

The Owls welcomed Yorkshire rivals Leeds United to Hillsborough for what promised to be another tough encounter.

And for Danny Rohl, the game took on some extra importance following the 4-0 defeat vs Sunderland last weekend.

But Leeds United won 2-0, scoring either side of half-time and cruising to victory.

It was another poor performance from the Owls who’ve not scored in their last two Championship outings, being limited to just three shots on target vs Leeds, and only 30% possession too.

Several players came under scrutiny; Gary Rowett was critical of Yan Valery for the first goal, and fellow Sky Sports pundit Jermaine Beckford was critical of James Beadle for the second goal.

Sheffield Wednesday fans though had a lot to say about Anthony Musaba on the night.

Sheffield Wednesday fans share frustration at Anthony Musaba after Leeds United defeat

Musaba joined Sheffield Wednesday last season, and despite his rawness went on to score seven and assist five more in 43 Championship outings.

The 23-year-old has one assist in three league appearances this season. But he’s so far frustrated the Owls faithful, largely because of a lack of end product.

Against Leeds, Musaba completed more dribbles than any player on the pitch (five), but failed to complete any of his three attempts at a cross.

One Owls fan posted on X: “Musaba might be the most frustrating footballer I’ve ever seen,” whilst another posted: “If Musaba had an end product, he wouldn’t be playing for Wednesday.”

Another similar comment read: “If Musaba could pass or shoot as well as he does unneeded step overs, we would have some player.”

Likewise, one fan added: “Musaba has the potential to be a top player, but his final deliveries into the box is the thing that’s holding him back the most.”

How can Danny Rohl get Anthony Musaba firing in the Championship

At the start of the Leeds game, Musaba looked lively.

He had the beating of Leeds right-back Jayden Bogle, but like the fans say, Musaba just couldn’t find a pass or have a shot when it really mattered.

Adding that final finish or pass is the hardest part for a tricky winger like Musaba and he’ll need all the help he can get from Rohl and the rest of the coaching staff.

It may just come with time and experience; it’s easy to forget that this is only Musaba’s second season in England.

He showed last season that he can have the finishing touch, scoring some important goals.

Now, it’s about finding consistency.
