Sheffield Wednesday are working on a deal to re-sign loan man Ike Ugbo on a permanent deal from Troyes this summer.
Joining on loan from French outfit Troyes in January this year, following a fairly underwhelming loan spell with Cardiff City during the first half of the season, Ike Ugbo would go on to become a cult hero at Sheffield Wednesday.
His seven goals in 18 Championship outings for the Owls played a huge part in the club’s eventual 20th place finish under Danny Rohl, and it’s no surprise to see Sheffield Wednesday trying to re-sign Ugbo.
Troyes were relegated to the French third tier last season. More recently, Sheffield Wednesday have tabled a opening bid for Ugbo but have since seen it knocked back.
Other clubs have now joined the race to sign the Canadian international with Championship rivals QPR and Stoke City keen, along with League One Birmingham City.
Now, Ugbo’s preference on his next move has been revealed.
Ike Ugbo wants Sheffield Wednesday return this summer
Ugbo is not short of options right now. But it appears that Troyes’ asking price, which remains unclear at this moment in time, is proving to be a sticking point for Sheffield Wednesday.
But journalist Darren Witcoop has now revealed on X that the 25-year-old ‘has made it clear that he wants a return to Sheffield Wednesday’ this summer.
However, Witcoop adds that a return is ‘not close’ as things stand, posting on X:

Ugbo returning would be another quality signing in an already-quality summer transfer window for Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday.
Owner Dejphon Chansiri is earning praise for his side’s positive business so far and rightly so.
Though bringing Ugbo back on a permanent deal would arguably be the club’s most impressive bit of business, given how much it might cost and how much of a coup it would be for Rohl, after Ugbo showcased his skills last season.
And the fact that Ugbo wants to return makes it clear that Sheffield Wednesday under Rohl has become a very attractive destination for players this summer.
The more players that arrive, and the more quality players that join too, only serves to make Hillsborough an even more attractive place for new players.
Things are certainly looking up for the Owls and if Ugbo makes his return, it would give the fan base another huge lift.
