Sheffield Wednesday have submitted a bid for a proven Championship striker ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.
Sheffield Wednesday have had a cracking summer transfer window so far, with the total of incoming signings taken to eight following the arrival of Charlie McNeill after he was released by Manchester United.
McNeill will be fighting for a place in the squad alongside striker Jamal Lowe, who has arrived from Bournemouth after spending the 2023/24 campaign with Swansea City on loan.
Attacker Josh Windass will also bolster Danny Rohl’s options next season after signing a new deal to keep him in S6, which he has followed up by expressing his optimism about the Owls going for promotion.
Despite an influx of signings, Rohl is still not fully satisfied with his attacking options, after he submitted a bid for a striker that he is a big fan of.
Sheffield Wednesday bid for former attacker Ike Ugbo
Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly placed an ‘opening bid’ for Troyes attacker Ike Ugbo, per Mike McGrath on X.
The Canadian international played a crucial role with Sheffield Wednesday in the latter stages of the 2023/24 campaign whilst on loan, netting seven goals to help the Owls climb to safety.
After his successful loan last season under Rohl, the 25-year-old has also attracted other Championship clubs that are ‘seriously interested’ in Ugbo, as well as being ‘watched by Premier League clubs’.
At the end of last season when Rohl was asked about the attacker, he praised Ugbo and the ‘quality in the second leg [second half of the season]’ that he provided.

It’s no secret that Rohl has been incredibly keen to have Ugbo return to Hillsborough following his loan spell last season.
The German boss was crucial in terms of getting the best out of the Canadian striker, meaning that he delivered a career best of seven goals in the Championship, better than previous spells at Cardiff City and Barnsley.
Ugbo will be fully aware of this, which will make the 25-year-old keen to play under Rohl where he can give himself the best chance to replicate his best form.
The way Rohl sets up his team tactically also plays into Ugbo’s favour, which showed that confidence that the Sheffield Wednesday manager had in him after he had ‘given him a lot of trust’.
Finances aside, it would be safe to assume that Sheffield Wednesday will be in the driving seat in their pursuit for Ugbo, with Rohl ultimately being the decisive factor behind this.
