Josh Windass believes that Sheffield Wednesday have ‘proved’ that they can go for promotion.
Optimism has never been so high at Sheffield Wednesday in recent time as it is now, with them making statement Championship signings so early on in the window.
The tally of incomings has now been taken to eight with Charlie McNeill’s arrival at Hillsborough following his release from Manchester United.
The signing of Polish winger Olaf Kobacki has also left Owls fans optimistic about the 2024/25 Championship season, as has Jamal Lowe joining the club from Premier League side Bournemouth.
Key players including the likes of Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer also committed their futures to the club after the 2023/24 Championship great escape.
German boss Danny Rohl seemingly is on the way to ticking every box in the transfer window ahead of the new season, leaving Sheffield Wednesday fan favourite Josh Windass optimistic that the Owls have ‘proved’ that they could go for a promotion push in the campaign.

Josh Windass on Sheffield Wednesday’s ‘mentality’ as they look to get promoted
Sheffield Wednesday managed to stay up by three points on the last game of the season away at Sunderland, and Owls attacker Windass believes that the team can continue that momentum into the new season.
Speaking to Football Heaven, he said: “A club our size should be challenging for the league every single year.
“But with this manager our intention is to finish as high as possible.
“My mentality and I’m sure all of the boys’ mentality is to try and get promoted this year.
“We’ve proved last year on the form table just how good we were and this year we’ve brought in better players and we’ve probably got the best manager in the league, so yeah that’s a good recipe in my opinion.”
Windass was another key player that committed his future for the following season, despite concrete interest from Championship rivals West Brom.
Do Sheffield Wednesday have the squad capable to ‘try and get promoted’
Rohl’s dealings in the summer have been nothing short of superb this season, adding Premier experience in the likes of Max Lowe and Yan Valery, as well as guaranteed goals in the form of Jamal Lowe and Kobacki.
There is also no doubt that Rohl is the perfect manager to get the best out of his squad that he has been dealt with.
He worked wonders with the team last season as soon as he was brought into the club, and with extra preparation with a squad that he has carefully crafted, there is no reason why they couldn’t be knocking on the door of promotion to the Premier League.
Reinforcements will still be needed in the striker position, with the unlikeliness that Charlie McNeill will be a short term answer to goals at Championship level, although Lowe will certainly play a significant part in playing up top for Sheffield Wednesday.
If a proven goalscorer, like transfer targets Sory Kaba and Ike Ugbo, joins up in S6, then Sheffield Wednesday and Danny Rohl will have everything at their disposal to push for promotion.
