Sheffield Wednesday have been one of the most active clubs in the transfer window this summer.

The Owls have already wrapped up eight deals and continue to be linked with further additions as they look to ignite a push for a top half finish.

Their latest signing was confirmed yesterday, as Sheffield Wednesday snapped up Charlie McNeill on a free transfer.

The striker was released by Manchester United last month and was on the search for a fresh start, having struggled to force his way into senior football.

McNeill had managed only three senior goals whilst on loan at Stevenage and Newport County, despite dominating youth football.

The 20-year-old netted 50 goals in United and Man City’s academies, but has struggled to make the jump up.

McNeill arrives at Hillsborough hoping to be given another chance to prove himself, while one former Sheffield Wednesday teammate clearly has high hopes for him.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru spent three years with the Owls, before joining Turkish side Hatayspor. After picking up 12 goal contributions, the midfielder joined Lazio earlier this month.

Dele-Bashiru had also spent six years with McNeill in Man City’s academy, before moving to Yorkshire.

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru backs former teammate

The 23-year-old has backed his former teammate after the youngster took to Instagram following his switch.

He wrote: “Delighted to join this massive club for the next three years! Can’t wait to get started and see all the fans at Hillsborough.”

Dele-Bashiru was then one of many players to respond, writing ‘R9’ with two fire emojis – comparing him to former Real Madrid, Barcelona and Brazil striker, Ronaldo.

A number of his former United teammates, such as Kobbie Mainoo, Shola Shoretire and Daniel Gore, also replied, while Barry Bannan wrote: “Congrats mate welcome.”

Charlie McNeill is ready for a fresh start at Hillsborough

McNeill joins a completely new chapter of the very early stages of his career, and has probably joined under the best head coach he could have possibly picked.

Danny Rohl has worked wonders with struggling players such as Pol Valentin and Anthony Musaba, while he also helped Bailey Cadamarteri make the move up to the senior team.

The youngster will have to be patient as it is unlikely he will get regular starts to begin with, but he is certainly a player Wednesday fans should be feeling positive about.
