Sheffield Wednesday welcome current Championship leaders West Brom to the Steel City this weekend.
Sheffield Wednesday have endured a pretty torrid start to the new season, plagued by poor performances and more recently, poor luck. And matters don’t get any easier this weekend.
West Brom are the team in 1st place of the Championship table right now and they head to Hillsborough this weekend for what’ll be a huge test for Danny Rohl’s men.
Last time out, Sheffield Wednesday lost 2-1 vs Luton Town. Though the game has been deemed something of a one-off for Wednesday, with Rob Staton believing that the officiating was poor and that Wednesday were unlucky to have gone down to 10-men.
West Brom meanwhile are unbeaten in the Championship this season. They’ve won their last four and are already 12 points ahead of Wednesday who sit in 21st, and are winless since their opening day 4-0 win vs Plymouth Argyle.

Sheffield Wednesday vs West Brom score prediction
Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom then have endured polarising starts to this new season, and given their starts, they might have vastly different expectations for the remainder of this season.
But the last time these two teams met, Sheffield Wednesday thumped West Brom 3-0 at Hillsborough, in what was a crucial match on their way to securing Championship safety.
With that win in April still somewhat fresh in their minds, Wednesday certainly have the chance to cause an upset here. And that’s what EFL pundit Benjamin Bloom has predicted this weekend.
Speaking on the Championship Check-In podcast, Bloom said:
“Are West Brom just going to keep winning? I think they might drop points here. But I don’t think they’ll lose… I don’t see Sheffield Wednesday winning. I’ll go 1-1.”

Goal-shy Sheffield Wednesday will aim for cagey affair vs West Brom
The Baggies are bang in form right now. Carlos Coberan’s side recruited well in the summer and it’s showing, with five goals in their last three games, but more impressively, none conceded.
And with the Owls somewhat goal-shy of late, having scored just two league goals since the opening day of the season, getting even one past West Brom is going to prove tough.
Despite last season’s impressive win vs West Brom, it’s going to be a much different affair this time round, and Rohl’s best chance of a win might be in making it as cagey and as dogged as possible.
If Wednesday can stop West Brom playing their attacking, passing style and turn it into a bit of a slog then they’ll surely stand a better chance than if Rohl and his players go toe-to-toe with the league leaders.
Kick off is at 12:30pm on Saturday.
