Danny Rohl reveals how managers feel about playing Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday are back on the road this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday are yet to pick up a single point away from home in the Championship this season.

And Danny Rohl’s side face another tough away outing on Saturday when they head to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town.

The Hatters’ 12,000 capacity stadium if markedly different to Wednesday’s iconic Hillsborough stadium, which can seat close to 35,000.

Last weekend saw Sheffield Wednesday play in front of a packed out Hillsborough against QPR in the Championship, and it looked as though Barry Bannan had given the Owls a late winner.

But QPR scored a controversial equaliser right at the death.

How Wednesday might fare this weekend remains to be seen. And away from home, Rohl has often chopped and changed formations, sometimes going too attacking and suffering heavily for it.

Speaking ahead of the weekend, Rohl discussed the difference of playing home and away, and what opposition managers think about playing at Wednesday.

Danny Rohl on Sheffield Wednesday home atmosphere

Speaking to the press on Thursday, Rohl revealed that Dominic Iorfa could return to action vs Luton Town this weekend.

Elsewhere, Rohl revealed that he’s in contract talks with several first-team players, and that he’s soon set for talks with owner Dejphon Chansiri about players’ contracts.

Rohl also went on to reveal how opposition managers feel when they have to come to Hillsborough to play Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls boss said: “At home our supporters help us a lot, when you speak to opposite managers they do not like to come to Hillsborough because it can be tough here!

“When away, we have to find a way to get points, this is the challenge and we have three away games coming up.

“We have to find a way. My team is brave enough and it’s about game management as well.”

Away form could be Sheffield Wednesday weakness this season

The Owls picked up some huge and memorable away wins on their way to Championship safety last season.

But there were times where they struggled; notably in defeats vs Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough on the road.

Often times, Rohl can set up too attacking-minded when playing away from home, and when playing teams with more attacking firepower than them, it backfired.

Having played a back-five last weekend vs QPR, expect Rohl to do the same again this weekend.

Though how they might fare against a Luton Town side desperate for a win remains to be seen.
