Sheffield Wednesday remain eager to snap up a new midfielder in the final two weeks of the transfer window.
The Owls have already added Svante Ingelsson and Nathaniel Chalobah to their ranks, but Danny Rohl feels like the pair don’t add enough squad depth.
The club have already been linked with Fortuna Sittard’s Loreintz Rosier, while they have made contact with Brighton over a deal for Malick Yalcouye.
Their search doesn’t end their though, with Sheffield Wednesday reportedly in hot pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Gustavo Puerta.
Puerta joined the Bundesliga champions in January 2023, but managed only ten appearances in all competitions last season.
The Colombia U20 captain was left out of the match-day squad for their DFL-Supercup clash yesterday, and now looks to be on his way out.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Wednesday have been chasing the midfielder ‘for weeks’, but now face a huge issue in their hunt for his signature.
Nixon wrote on his Patreon: “Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday are facing a battle in the chase for Bayer Leverkusen’s Colombian midfielder Gustavo Puerta.
“Tigers and Owls still want more players and have been chasing Puerta for weeks. However Danish side Brondby have now come up with a £3 million bid which looks set to blow them out of the water.”
Sheffield Wednesday should look to the Premier League instead
Wednesday have splashed out over £4m so far this summer and look unlikely to spend much more.
While it remains unclear how much they would have been prepared to pay for Puerta, there is surely no chance they are going to match Brondby’s bid.
Even if they did, the 21-year-old could favour a move to Denmark as they compete for the Superliga title, while they could offer European football next season – having been knocked out of the Europa Conference League earlier this week.
The Owls may have to look elsewhere for a new midfielder and should really look to the Premier League, with the top flight containing so many talented youngsters ready for loan spells.
Yalcouye looks like he could be a very solid signing for the Yorkshire outfit, having previously been a target for Manchester United and Liverpool.
We are likely to see their pursuit vamp up over the next week or so, at which point a number of targets could emerge.
