Danny Rohl has spoken out about Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer plans for the rest of the January window.
Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed a busy opening two weeks to the new year, bringing in striker Ike Ugbo and goalkeeper James Beadle. They also terminated the loans of John Buckley and Devis Vasquez, while Tyreeq Bakinson joined Charlton Athletic until the end of the season.
Things have gone quiet more recently though, but their recent defeats to Southampton and Coventry City have suggested they still need to invest further in the transfer market.
Danny Rohl has revealed that he is still on the hunt for reinforcements before transfer deadline day, but has admitted The Owls’ financial restraints make it a ‘challenge’ to sign the players he really wants.
Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, the German said: “We have to do something in the last few weeks. We try, but also if you try on the pitch then hopefully you will get the result. This is what we are doing at the moment, to try something and hopefully we get the result we want – in the transfer market as well.
“For sure, it’s always a challenge that we are in this situation. It’s about convincing the player, have the chance to take something – sometimes one minute the chance is open and the next minute the chance is closed. It is all about timing and this is what we are doing. This is not easy, I feel it. You can have a list of what you want, but it’s not always getting your wish. It’s about finding a solution.

“We invest a lot from my side, we do all the things what we can do. Then it’s all about having some players who can decide the game, we are looking for. But for me it’s all about having a good team performance.”
What could happen at Hillsborough before deadline day?
Sheffield Wednesday haven’t been linked with too many players in recent days, but have instead seen their own stars attract attention.
Josh Windass is said to be a target for the MLS, while Michael Smith looks increasingly likely to join League One side Derby County. Marvin Johnson has also been the subject of a bid from Ipswich Town, which is reportedly his ‘dream move’.
While The Owls need to work hard to bring players in, it would be disastrous if they also lost some of their key men too.
The likes of Windass and Johnson add much needed leadership and experience to this squad, and their exits could spell danger for the relegation-threatened team.
The club need to focus on keeping their squad together this month, then focus on opening contract talks with those that could potentially leave on free transfers in the summer.
