Sheffield Wednesday striker Josh Windass has given an update on his future at the club, amid reports that he could be moving on this month.
Sheffield Wednesday striker Windass, 30, sees his current contract at Hillsborough expire this summer.
And with that has come an influx of reports linking him with a move away from the club this month, with the play-off final hero now able to secure a pre-contract agreement with clubs overseas.
It’s been reported in the media that Windass has been in talks with other clubs, with Real Salt Lake apparently one of the MLS teams interested in signing Windass.
And now, Windass has had his say on his future.

Speaking to The Star ahead of this weekend’s Championship clash vs Coventry City, Windass said on his future at the club:
“To be honest I just let my agent deal with that sort of stuff, but obviously I know I’m out of contract and when a player of my quality is on a free I know stuff like that is going to happen… I’m just trying to concentrate on playing well and scoring goals here, and I’ve said that if I was thinking of signing a pre contract or anything like that then I told Danny he’d be the first one I’d go to. But that’s not the case…”
Windass not ruling out Sheffield Wednesday
Windass comments are the typical ones from a player in his current predicament.
He’s not ruled out a transfer exit, but he’s also not ruled out staying at the club until the end of this season at least.
And for Wednesday, it’s a tricky decision to weigh up.
On the one hand, Danny Rohl will surely want Windass to stick around and help the club battle against relegation.
But on the other, Wednesday could offload Windass, potentially this month and make a fee on the player, instead of losing him for free in the summer.
Windass is one of the higher-earners at the club too so selling him would open up a big gap int he wage bill at Sheffield Wednesday.
Windass has only scored twice in 17 Championship outings this season. But he’s looked sharp, and rejuvenated in recent matches, so it gives Rohl definite reason to want to keep Windass around for the rest of the season.
A lot could be decided in Windass’ next performances, with Sheffield Wednesday hosting Coventry City in the Championship this weekend.
