Sheffield Wednesday have a number of players attracting interest this month, with a lot of interest coming from the MLS.
Sheffield Wednesday have a number of first-team players out of contract in the summer and we’re now seeing several of those players attract pre-contract interest this month.
Liam Palmer is one, and he’s said to have suitors from the MLS, along with striker Josh Windass.
Last week it was revealed that the striker has multiple suitors in the States and now one of those suitors is revealed to be Real Salt Lake.
Real Salt Lake keen on Josh Windass, but no official offer yet
The Athletic’s Tom Bogert has now revealed that Real Salt Lake are one of the MLS sides keen on Windass, who is out of contract in the summer.
Bogert though adds that there’s ‘no official offer’ from Salt Lake just yet.
He posted on X:
Windass, 30, joined Sheffield Wednesday during the 2019/20 campaign and has since racked up 127 total appearances for the Owls, with 36 goals and 17 assists to his name.
So far this season, Windass has scored two and assisted two in 17 Championship outings for Danny Rohl’s side.
Sheffield Wednesday in limbo over Windass future
Windass’ situation seems like a very tricky one.
As per Salary Sport, he’s one of the club’s highest-earning players on £18,000-a-week and so from a financial point of view, it maybe makes sense to let him go in the summer.
But over the past few weeks, Windass’ form has picked up, and so from that point of view, Rohl would surely be keen to keep hold of him until the end of the season.
But whether Rohl would want any of his players agreeing pre-contract moves remains to be seen.
It could well impact on his performances levels if Windass knows for sure that he’s moving on in the summer and if he does agree a pre-contract, Wednesday might then fancy a sale this month so that they can move on, and potentially bring in someone else.
Strikers remain pretty thin on the ground for Sheffield Wednesday and so expect the Owls to want to bring in another this month, especially with other attacks like Michael Smith looking set to leave.
