Di’Shon Bernard has ended weeks of uncertainty after signing a new Sheffield Wednesday contract.
The Jamaican international has signed a three-year contract to keep him in S6 until the summer of 2027.
The news of Bernard’s new deal has been met fondly by Sheffield Wednesday fans who grew to love the 23-year-old in his 32 Championship appearances last season.
He technically becomes the 10th summer signing at Hillsborough, in what’s been a very promising pre-season for Danny Rohl and owner Dejphon Chansiri.

The biggest winner here certainly seems like the Sheffield Wednesday fans, who’s been wanting Bernard to sign a new deal for some time now.
Earlier this week, Sheffield Wednesday fans were left disappointed after Bernard posted a picture of suitcases on Instagram, captioning the image ‘Ready for the next chapter’.
Many thought that was his goodbye to supporters, but when it was revealed that Bernard had signed a new deal, Sheffield Wednesday social media erupted.
They value and rate him very highly and he adds yet more positivity to this summer’s transfer window.
Secondly, Danny Rohl seems like obvious winner here. He’s re-signing a quality defender who he knows already suits his passing style of play.
Bernard shone under Rohl last season after what’s been a tough few years for Bernard, having been loaned to various clubs in different leagues. But he’s now settled under Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday.
Lastly, goalkeeper James Beadle may be glad to see Bernard return. Beadle has also returned to the club, joining on loan from Brighton where he’ll look to get a full season of Championship football under his belt.
Having Bernard in front of him will give him more assurance, and it’ll also give Beadle a good option to pas the ball out to from the back, with Sheffield Wednesday likely to adopt a passing style of play under Rohl again next season.
Whilst Bernard re-signing is very good news all round, it may be less so for a couple of players, one being Bambo Diaby.
Diaby was a source of criticism last season for his often poor performances at centre-back, though he showed glimpses of a useful player.
Bernard re-signing surely shoves Diaby back down the pecking order, with Bernard and Michael Ihiekwe looking like Rohl’s current strongest centre-back pairing.
And like with Diaby, Bernard’s return may see Akin Famewo struggle for regular game time next season.
He too was hit and miss with Sheffield Wednesday fans last time round, often filling in across the back-line whenever Rohl needed an extra player in there.
For Diaby and Famewo, next season could be make or break for them at Sheffield Wednesday, with both players out of contract in the summer of 2025.
