Sheffield Wednesday are readying themselves for another summer clear-out of the playing staff.
With several players out of contract in the summer, and either Danny Rohl or another new boss set to oversee another squad makeover, a clear-out looks inevitable this summer.
It may well be a long overdue clear-out for the Owls who have once again struggled this season.
But a run of four-straight wins before the 2-0 defeat vs Leeds United last weekend has given Sheffield Wednesday a fighting chance of Championship survival this season.
As things stand, Rohl’s side sit in 23rd place of the table and one point from drawing level with Birmingham City in 21st, and QPR in 20th.
But ahead of the summer window, here are three Sheffield Wednesday players who may have already played their last game for the club…
Jeff Hendrick in Sheffield Wednesday nightmare
Jeff Hendrick seems like an inevitable name to start this list with.
The man on loan from Newcastle United has endured a torrid season on loan at Hillsborough, featuring just 10 times in the Championship, and having not been named in a matchday squad in the league since December.
He’s been carrying an injury and his return date seems to be getting pushed further and further back.
But after such a poor season, even if the 32-year-old was fit and available, it may be the case that he doesn’t even make the squad anyway.
Cameron Dawson
The Owls academy graduate was a hot topic of conversation during the first half of the season.
Many thought Devis Vasquez was a better option in goal but Rohl persisted with Dawson, who’s since lost his place in the XI to the impressive James Beadle.
Dawson is out of contract in the summer and so Sheffield Wednesday will need to bring in at least a couple of goalkeepers, unless they choose to hand Dawson a new deal.
That seems to depend on whether or not the Owls stay in the second tier; Dawson has failed to show his Championship credentials in goal this season.
Lee Gregory
It’s been a pretty sad story for Gregory at Sheffield Wednesday this season.
The 35-year-old scored 11 goals in assisted five more in League One last season but has now just played a couple of minutes for the first-team since October; Gregory has only been in one matchday squad since November.
The 35-year-old is out of contract in the summer and looks nailed on to leave this summer, after the club blocked a deadline day move to Derby County.
