Sheffield Wednesday have been criticised for their deadline day treatment of exiled striker Lee Gregory, who was a target for Derby County.
Sheffield Wednesday are frantically looking to get some new faces through the Hillsborough doors today, with their only bit of deadline day business so far being the loan exit of George Byers to Blackpool.
Another name who looked set to follow Byers though was Gregory; the 35-year-old has played just once since October and is a reported target for Derby County in League One.
But a return to Pride Park has fallen through for the veteran striker with reports revealing that Sheffield Wednesday wanted a large chunk of his apparent £12k-a-week wages to be paid.
Gregory is out of contract in the summer and now faces the prospect of watching from the stands until he becomes a free agent.
And Derbyshire Live journalist Leigh Curtis has aimed a dig at Sheffield Wednesday over their treatment of the striker, posting on X:

Sheffield Wednesday are penny pinching where Gregory is regarded.
He’s not going to play in the second half of the season, barring a flurry of injuries to the few strikers at Danny Rohl‘s disposal, and so getting any amount of his wages paid would be better than none at all.
We may never know the full story, but it certainly paints the club and maybe owner Dejphon Chansiri in a negative light when it comes to transfer negotiations.
It may be no surprise that the Owls have struggled so much in the transfer market this winter; not only are they in a poor league position but it may be that they’re also a tricky club to try and deal with.
There’s still time for the Owls to get some deals over the line though, with Leeds United attacker Ian Poveda now a target after the chaotic saga involving Duncan McGuire seemed to reach it’s climax.
