Sheffield Wednesday fans now urge Rohl to drop ‘diabolical’ ace after Birmingham

Defeat at Birmingham City yesterday leaves Sheffield Wednesday 10 points adrift at the bottom of the Championship table.

Sheffield Wednesday have now lost 13 of their opening 17 Championship games this season, with just six points on the board.

The Owls had initially took the lead yesterday through George Byers, but Birmingham levelled soon after and went on to score a late winner.

It wasn’t an awful overall performance; Wednesday arguably deserved a point, if not all three, but once again it was individual errors costing Danny Rohl and the Owls.

And one player who came under criticism once again is Cameron Dawson.

Cameron Dawson so far this season

Dawson, 28, has been with Sheffield Wednesday for several years now. But he’s never been able to properly hold down a no.1 position.

He’s featured eight times in the Championship this season and is at risk of losing his starting spot to Devis Vasquez who many think would be a better option for Rohl.

Dawson’s overall game has come under criticism; his ball-playing ability and shot-stopping hasn’t been up to scratch, and it’s cost Wednesday goals on too many occasions this season.

What’s being said?

Wednesday fans are passionate, and they’ve made their voice heard where Dawson is regarded.

On X after yesterday’s game, many made it clear that they think Dawson is not up to the task this season.

He’s had enough chances in the Championship this season but he’s made too many errors, with his positioning for the opening Birmingham City goal yesterday a particular cause for concern.

Vasquez could well be Rohl’s mind for the midweek clash vs leaders Leicester City, but if not, it could be a final test for Dawson to prove his worth to the Wednesday boss.

Here’s what some Sheffield Wednesday fans have had to say about Dawson online…
