Sheffield Wednesday have seen a number of young players flourish while out on loan before making something of themselves back at Hillsborough, and they have the chance to create opportunities for more in the New Year.
With Sheffield Wednesday looking to establish themselves as a Championship force, and Danny Rohl looking to continue the progress of his early work at the club, the S6 side are in a period of transition at the moment.
Rohl is still relying on some of the older, more experienced players, but has shown he is not afraid to chuck young talent into the mix, too.
Still, the likes of Bailey Cadamarteri are out on loan this season getting valuable game time with one eye on next season.
News broke this week of Sam Reed being lined up for a loan move to the National League in the New Year, but he’s not the only Sheffield Wednesday Academy starlet who needs to get valuable experience this season.

Devlan Moses is ready for more minutes
Rohl has plenty of options when it comes to first-team strikers, with Ike Ugbo, Michael Smith, and Jamal Lowe fighting it out there.
Then, with Cadamarteri in explosive form on loan at Lincoln City, one would assume there is not much chance of any other young strikers finding their way to the first-team just yet.
Devlan Moses has been impressive for the Under-21 squad this term, and even hit the winner against Burnley in midweek. He’s done enough to prove he’s ready for something more meaningful, but he won’t get that at Hillsborough right now.
Sending the 19-year-old into the National League, where he can really get to grips with the more physical side of the game, would be huge for his development.

Rio Shipston needs to take the next step
The progression path in the middle of the park for Sheffield Wednesday right now is blocked by one very exciting player: Sean Fusire. With the 19-year-old mixing it up around the fringes of Danny Rohl’s first-team squad, there is no way Rio Shipston is breaking through this season.
Shipston featured briefly for the Owls during their time in League One, and has found more substantial game time in the FA Cup and EFL Trophy in the past, but his development has stalled and he’s falling down the pecking order fast.
Not to be dramatic, but a loan move for the remainder of this season could be the difference between the 20-year-old making something of himself at Sheffield Wednesday, or fading into obscurity. A temporary spell in League Two would be ideal.

Guilherme Siqueira has shown promise already
Having snapped up Guilherme Siqueira from QPR’s youth setup last year, Sheffield Wednesday have given the full-back a taste of first-team football in the FA Cup already.
The Brazilian has all the technical ability and physical attributes to make it in the senior squad, but just needs to build up that in-game experience and awareness to take him to the next level. If he gets that, there’s no reason he can’t be pushing the likes of Yan Valery and Pol Valentin in 2025/26.
It may be a big ask for him, but if Siqueira can get involved with a League One club in the second half of the season, he could rapidly make progress towards that goal of being in the Sheffield Wednesday first-team squad.
