Sheffield Wednesday have had a difficult start to the 2024/25 Championship season.
The Owls have struggled so far this season, with Danny Rohl’s side currently sitting 20th in the league table.
Sheffield Wednesday got off to a perfect start at home to Plymouth Argyle, where they beat Wayne Rooney’s side in an emphatic 4-0 victory.
However, this was far from a sign of things to come as the Owls struggled to continue their momentum following the victory against Plymouth Argyle in the Championship, as well as an away win at Hull City in the EFL Cup.
With three defeats on the bounce for Rohl’s side, all of which saw an inability for Sheffield Wednesday to find the back of the net, there are already questions getting asked of the side that was so heavily recruited in the summer and whether there has been any improvement on the pitch.

Sheffield Wednesday stats show similarities to play under Xisco Munoz
The Owls are clearly struggling in one particular aspect so far this season, and that is the difficulty for Rohl’s side to find the back of the net.
Per SofaScore, Sheffield Wednesday have averaged a goal per game in the Championship so far this season, however this is taking into account the emphatic victory against Plymouth Argyle, which due to its stark contrast to the more recent games appears to be more of an anomaly.
Under Xisco Munoz, whilst they were unable to get a win on the board in the first four, they also scored the same amount of goals as Rohl’s side so far this season, with nine also being conceded in the first four of both the 2023/24 and the 2024/25 campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday must look to be more clinical in front of goal
Ball possession has increased for the Owls, as well as Rohl’s side fashioning more chances, however there is the glaring issue of Sheffield Wednesday not showing a clinical edge.
Sheffield Wednesday managed just eight shots on target in the first four of the season, and Rohl’s side have certainly trumped that with an average of 4.3 shots on target per game, however the Owls are getting no rewards for this.
Rohl must look to solve the current attacking issues, and the likes of Ike Ugbo not quite performing to the best of his abilities so far since he joined from Troyes, as well as winger Anthony Musaba, who has been described as a ‘frustrating’ player in front of goal.
There have to be changes made, and Rohl must be proactive in looking to solve his attacking woes. Being on par with Munoz regarding attacking abilities is certainly a brush that the German boss won’t want to be tarred with, and he should as a result look towards the root of the problems in his selection.
