Sheffield Wednesday are halfway through their pre-season schedule.

The Owls returned to pre-season training last month and went onto enjoy their first friendly of the summer, beating Alfreton Town 2-0 in Derbyshire.

Sheffield Wednesday then went onto spent a week in their first training camp at St George’s Park, before enduring a 3-0 defeat in a behind-closed-doors clash with Brighton & Hove Albion yesterday.

Danny Rohl’s side are now preparing for the second half of pre-season, with the team set to fly out to Germany. They will train in Rohl’s home country, before crossing the border to Austria to take on RB Salzburg and Werder Bremen.

Following their return to Yorkshire, they will host LaLiga 2 side Leganes at Hillsborough before returning to Championship action.

Wednesday are set to face some tough opponents this summer and will all need to be at their very best if they are to impress Rohl and make it into the starting line-up for the opener against Plymouth Argyle.

There is plenty of competition for places after the Owls made nine signings so far, while a number of youngsters will also be looking to force their way into the senior set-up.

Here are five prospects who could impress on their trip to Germany.

Five prospects who could impress in Sheffield Wednesday pre-season training camp

Hall is yet to make a senior appearance for Wednesday but could well be given a chance against Salzburg or Werder Bremen.

Ben Hamer reportedly picked up an injury recently and it’s unclear whether he will fly to Germany, while Pierce Charles is currently impressing at the U19 Euros with Northern Ireland.

This gives Hall an opportunity to get some minutes in his legs and try to catch the eye of Rohl. However, it seems like the more likely outcome is a loan exit for the goalkeeper.

Reed has previously impressed for the U21s and was called up to the first team last season, making his debut in the FA Cup.

Rohl has already tipped the defender to enjoy a breakthrough into the senior squad, though he will have to work hard to impress this summer following Max Lowe’s arrival.

Siqueira is another who has made his mark in U21 football after joining from QPR last summer.

The 19-year-old made the bench on eight occasions last season and also made three appearances in the FA Cup.

Siqueira still has plenty to prove, but his versatility to play either side of the defence and also on the right side of midfield could help Rohl out.

Phuthi has really impressed with the youth team and has previously been hailed ‘exciting’ and one that causes ‘all sorts of problems’.

The defender is one of the few academy players that have made their Championship debut already, making a five minute cameo on Boxing Day.

However, Phuthi is another right-back so will face competition from Siqueira, Pol Valentin and new-boy Yan Valery.

Fusire looked extremely promising after signing his first professional contract in December 2022, going onto make his senior debut in the FA Cup as a 17 year old.

The teenager has since linked up with the first team but has struggled with injuries, so his progression has been stinted.

With Wednesday struggling for depth in midfield, Fusire could get his chance during pre-season and will be eager to get into Rohl’s good books.
