Centre-back Di’Shon Bernard is technically a free agent after seeing his Sheffield Wednesday contract expire at the end of June.
Di’Shon Bernard, 23, is once again a free agent after the expiry of his Sheffield Wednesday deal on June 30th.
The former Manchester United academy man has been weighing up his options after an impressive 2023/24 season with the Owls, which saw him feature 32 times in the Championship.
Bernard became a well-liked player among Sheffield Wednesday fans, who are desperate for Bernard to sign a new deal ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.
Per the club’s retained list in June, Bernard has been offered a new deal to stay at Hillsborough beyond this summer.
Bernard though was away on international duty with Jamaica at Copa America soon after the end of the 2023/24 campaign, having also had interest from elsewhere in the Championship and in Europe.
On Tuesday night, Bernard caused unrest among Sheffield Wednesday fans when he posted a picture of some suitcases on Instagram, with the caption ‘Ready for the next chapter’.

Despite that cryptic social media message, there were reports that Bernard’s Sheffield Wednesday future was still undecided.
And the latest update comes from journalist Alex Miller, who posted on X: “Expecting Di’Shon Bernard to remain a Sheffield Wednesday player after further contract discussions this week.”
Miller adds that Bernard is ‘likely’ to join the Sheffield Wednesday first-team squad for their upcoming pre-season training camps in Germany and Austria, but that he may join the players slightly later.

With Bernard now looking likely to sign a new deal and stay in S6 for at least the next season, it’ll come as a huge relief to Danny Rohl and to the Sheffield Wednesday fans.
It’s taken some time, though, which may suggest that Bernard was waiting to see what summer transfer business the Owls could so, and whether they could assert themselves as club who’ll be challenging at the upper-end of the table next season.
Whilst it remains to be seen how well Sheffield Wednesday’s new signings settle in next season, there’s growing expectations for the club under Rohl in 2024/25.
And Bernard staying will only bolster the club’s chances of drastically improving on last season’s 20th place finish in the Championship.
