Released Sheffield Wednesday defender Di’Shon Bernard posted a cryptic message on his Instagram on Monday night.
On Monday night, Di’Shon Bernard caused unrest among Sheffield Wednesday fans on social media.
The 23-year-old posted a picture of several suitcases and bags with the caption ‘Ready for the next chapter’.
Masses of Owls fan online assumed it mean that Bernard is now officially leaving the club, after his contract expired at the end of last season.
The centre-back then went away to Copa America with Jamaica but still has a contract offer on the table from Sheffield Wednesday, per the club’s retained list.
There’s been plenty of back and forth over whether or not Bernard will stay at Hillsborough beyond this summer.
He’s thought to have plenty of Championship interest following an impressive 2023/24 campaign, with interest coming from Europe too.
Now though, there’s been a fresh update shared on Bernard’s situation in the Steel City.

Di’Shon Bernard update at Sheffield Wednesday after cryptic Instagram message
The latest update on the situation comes from The Star who report that Sheffield Wednesday ‘remain hopeful’ of Bernard penning a new deal, and staying at the club beyond this summer.
The same report writes that ‘the saga has not been closed either way as of yet’, despite Bernard’s message on social media on Monday night.
Former Manchester United youngster Bernard featured 32 times in the Championship during the 2023/24 season, becoming a well-liked player among Sheffield Wednesday fans for his combative performances in defence.

What did Di’Shon Bernard mean with his cryptic Sheffield Wednesday message
Bernard’s message on Instagram certainly suggested that he was on the move, and the bags suggested that he was on his way out of England.
But The Star’s update makes Bernard’s message seem confusing and slightly unnecessary, as it caused a lot of unrest among Sheffield Wednesday fans online.
Fans are desperate for him to stay but it appeared as though he announced his departure with that message.
It’s likely that Bernard has multiple suitors right now and is weighing up a lot of options after his impressive 2023/24 season.
So his message on Instagram could’ve been a ploy to create some hysteria and get teams to act; perhaps Sheffield Wednesday after seeing how much the fans want him to stay.
But nothing is done and dusted just yet, and it seems like there’s still a good chance that he stays in S6 for next season.
